YaBB (Yet Another Bulletin Board) Takes fresh new start.
The year 2002 will bring a fresh new start for YaBB, the popular open-source bulletin board system. Many changes will pull through, perhaps two of the more visible being the new website and domain. By moving to http://www.yabbforum.com, the bulletin board will lead a more independent life once again. Even though the loss of two team members, the YaBB team says it will continue YaBB 2 development, and expect to release the first beta later this year.
The year 2002 will bring a fresh new start for YaBB, the popular open-source bulletin board system. Many changes will pull through, perhaps two of the more visible being the new website and domain. By moving to http://www.yabbforum.com, the bulletin board will lead a more independent life once again. With the name change comes a complete site change. The creators have made a complete resource-center, featuring an extensive knowledge library, tips and tricks for YaBB users and "official mods". These are code modifications made by the team itself, adding fresh new features to the board. A bright new layout, using state of the art CSS and DHTML, is a taste of things to come later in the year, YaBB 2.
But sadly the team has lost two of it's main members, Jeff Lewis and Peter Crouch. The two, who have been with YaBB for over a year, decided to leave the team, for various reasons.
Jeff Lewis states: "Well, it's been a year and a half and while the last 6-8 months have been quiet from myself I did appreciate a place to come daily. I am however, going to be leaving YaBB and devoting all of my time to SE (a php port of YaBB) and to my real job.". The team says it will miss the coding abilities, creative and financial guidance Jeff Lewis has given to YaBB. Only a few days later Peter Crouch, lead developer of the YaBB 2 project, also decided to leave the team for personal reasons.
Peter Crouch commented: "This decision hasn't been made lightly; it's been bothering me for months on end. One thing that kept me here was I wanted to see YaBB succeed. But my well being is at stake here, I was having trouble sleeping and the stress was amounting, it had consumed my life."
Even though the loss of two team members, the YaBB team says it will continue YaBB 2 development, and expect to release the first beta later this year. Corey Chapman, new YaBB project leader, takes a philosophic approach to this: "It's time for the new generation. Open-Source projects are known to have a constantly changing development team, but that's what makes these kind of projects so interesting."
The new YaBB website will now be used as a fresh start, with a new development team, and a better service towards YaBB users than ever before.
