Register Country Specific Generic Domains For Your Online Business

Country specific common word domains gains a lot of visitors - Swedish generic domains game.se and games.se gets 60.000 visitors a year without any marketing. The domain name auction site 1-Domain.SE is selling 330 generic one word domain names.

Besides www.games.com, many Swedish web surfers also tries www.games.se
in their web browser when they are looking for games on the Net, before
they do a search in a search engine. And the same behaviour can be found
in every other country and for every top level domain. Non-English
speaking web surfers usually try words both in English and in their own
language, as domain names.

The domain name auction site 1-Domain.SE is selling 330 common English
and Swedish word domains under the Swedish top level domain .SE.
Without any marketing or search engine registering, the domains gather
around 250.000 unique visitors every month (from an online population
of 4.5 million this is about 6% of the Swedish web surfers).

The ten most popular English word domains are sport.se, city.se, auto.se,
game.se, games.se, toys.se, women.se, casino.se, cars.se, and business.se.
Sport.se alone gets 4.000 visitors a month. This is a proof that country
specific generic English word domains also works well online, besides the
international .com, .net, .biz and .info domains.

It is a good idea for online businesses to register as many generic word
country specific domains as possible, in the markets that they are
targeting. For example, a Swedish car seller can register car.se and
cars.se, plus the corresponding Swedish words bil.se and bilar.se. In the
same way a worldwide distributor of computer games should register the
words game and games in a lot of country specific top level domains.
Need we say that all registered domains have to be redirected to the main
website address to get hold of the traffic?

Dealing with strict domain name rules

All companies who are doing business with Sweden can also go to the new
site SwedNIC.com, and register almost any domain name under the Swedish
top level domain .SE. Normally, the strict Swedish domain name rules
states that you must own a Swedish company to register a domain name with
the same name as the company. But SwedNIC.com is overriding this by a
unique and strictly legal business model where a subsidiary company is
registered, making it possible for a foreign company to protect both its
business name and its brands in the important Scandinavian market.
