Lewis, the multi-ethnic choir is dedicated to bringing Welsh music, traditional and contemporary, to a global audience.

The Welsh Choir of Southern California/Cor Cymraeg De Califfornia will present
its fourth annual St. Davids Day Festival of Welsh Music" at the First
Congregational Church of Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon, March 3, 2002
at 3 p.m. Founded in 1997 by award-winning Welsh composer and conductor
Michael J. Lewis, the multi-ethnic choir is dedicated to bringing Welsh music,
traditional and contemporary, to a global audience.   

St. Davids Day is celebrated annually on March 1, in honor of the patron saint
of Wales. The St. Davids Day Festival will feature new hymns and love songs
composed by contemporary Welsh composers and poets, as well as traditional
hymns and folk songs. All the music is Welsh, sung both in Welsh and in English.
The choir will be accompanied by the First Congregational Churchs great organ,
harp, percussion, and brass. Melanie Henley Heyn, soprano, from the
University of Southern California, and Michael Daniel, baritone, of the

This choir has the vision, energy, and direction to bring Welsh music into the
modern age of performance on a grand scale," writes a reviewer for the Welsh
American national newspaper, Ninnau. Following Welsh custom, the audience
will be invited to join in thrilling renditions of some of Waless most noble hymns.

The choirs recently released CD, Hearts Afire," has garnered praise from
reviewers and audiences alike. It is the most significant recording of Welsh
music made in many years," according to one review.
