Technologies to track inventory and streamline work flow
Singapore, January 25, 2002 -- Intermec Technologies Corp., a global leader in wireless networking, has announced a partnership with IBM that links Intermec's experience in wireless networking and data collection information flow with IBM Global Services' wireless e-business consulting and implementation services.
Together, IBM Global Services and Intermec deliver seamless services for customers in industries such as automotive, manufacturing and transportation. IBM and Intermec will create customized wireless solutions for customers using each company's core competencies: Intermec's long history of providing robust wireless networks and industrial industry mobile workforce software and products, and Intellitag® radio frequency identification, and IBM's hardware, software and consulting, systems integration and managed wireless e-business services.
"Companies already are selecting IBM Global Services and Intermec to build the wireless systems they need to take advantage of the business benefits of our mobile and wireless capabilities," said Intermec Executive Vice President Tom Miller. "By joining forces even more closely, IBM and Intermec are providing customers immediate access to both companies' expertise."
IBM and Intermec formalized their long-standing relationship following successful joint projects with companies such as Mercedes-Benz, which uses IBM's Distribution View warehouse management system and services with Intermec shop floor data collection devices. Intermec and IBM joined forces with Libbey Inc., a Toledo, Ohio, tabletop manufacturer, to develop a wireless extension to the company's ERP system that improved inventory accuracy and management in its distribution centers.
"The combination of Intermec and IBM brings very targeted solutions to industries where wireless is important for productivity and efficiency," said Dean Douglas, general manager, wireless e-business, IBM Global Services. "Working together, we can get everyone from shop floor to delivery organizations unplugged and productive quickly and seamlessly."
IBM Global Services will provide consulting, application design and integration, implementation, testing, systems management and migration services in support of IBM and Intermec services and technologies.
