Universal Music Group Debuts Mixable CDs"
New Interactive Format Developed by Visiosonic Ltd. Lets Consumers
Remix Their Music CDs on Home PCs
CLEARWATER, Fla./ January 27, 2002-- Universal Music Group Television UK is giving consumers the chance to play DJ with the debut of a Mixable CD Clubmix 2002, a new interactive format that lets listeners edit and rearrange their CDs tracks to create custom music remixes on home PCs.
The new Mixable CDs, developed by DJ software maker Visiosonic (www.pcdj.com), will play normally in conventional CD players -- but listeners preferring a more hands-on audio experience can slide the mix-it-yourself disc into their computers CD ROM drive. Click a button on the CDs Flash menu to install Visiosonics PCDJ digital music player/mixer, and gain access to dozens of tracks which can be mixed to taste using the controls on the PCDJ player.
The Mixable CD format allows total listener participation," said Visiosonics CEO, Joe Vangieri. Re-mixing songs, changing their tempos, and experimenting with different combinations is a creative, exhilarating way for fans to experience their favorite artists and music."
Vangieri said that the cost of adding mixability" to CDs would not be passed on to retail consumers.
Its a free enhancement," said Vangieri. The idea is to provide music fans with added value -- and a whole lot of fun."
