In honor of Januarys National Book Blitz Month

SELF-PUBLISHING COMES OF AGE

Santa Clarita, Ca. The growing self-publishing industry is not new, Mark Twain self-published his books 150 years ago. Once thought of as sub-par, no longer is this sector of commerce completely disregarded as second rate. According to Book Industry Trends, self-publishing has blossomed to take in $14.3 billion, nearly half, of the United States $29.6 billion publishing revenue. Over 64,000 books are published each year nationally; the Publishers Marketing Association tells us that many of them are from the 53,000 small and independent publishers designed to promote an individual authors work.
Authors self-publish for a vast variety of reasons, such as wanting control over their manuscript, to having been turned down by large publishing houses, to those who want larger profits than afforded by traditional royalties.
One self-published author cites a truly unique reason for her venture, God told me to," says Nedalee Thomas. Its been quite a amazing journey for me. I never planned to be an author, God just woke me up, gave me the title, A Believers Guide to Deliverance for Children and began to pour out the content, page after page. Later, as the book was well on its way to completion; I began to research the publishing industry so that I would know how to properly submit the book to a traditional publisher. I sent it to one publisher, who was very encouraging, but they only published 3 books a year and didnt have room in their program for my book. I would have persevered and sent it to many more publishers if necessary, but God very clearly told me to self-publish it. I argued that point with Him quite stringently, as I really wanted the validation of a formal publisher, and lacked the funds and know how to do it myself. About a year later, still lacking the funds, I began to give file copies of the book away free on the internet, in an attempt to be obedient to what I had heard and to get the it into the hands of families who needed it."
Her book, titled A Believers Guide to Deliverance for Children, and subtitled, Foster, Adoptive or Birth Children: A Way to Remove the Foothold of the Enemy which she describes as a parenting book for desperate parents, is now available in paperback. A very unusual self-publisher indeed, Thomas is so passionate about the subject of her book that she shamelessly admits to hand making each copy of the book. She asks that only truly desperate parents buy them as it takes her an hour to handcraft each 244 page copy. In the book, Thomas offers expert advice based on her extensive parenting background. Thomas knows the trauma of being raised by substitute parents, having spent thirteen years of her childhood outside of her parents home and care. After having two children of her own whom she home schooled, Thomas then went on to serve as a foster mother, parenting nineteen children over a period of nine years and adopting two exceptionally difficult boys along the way. Last year, at the ripe age of 38, Thomas became a grandmother. With this combined set of experiences, Thomas covers every facet of parenting the troubled child from infant to adulthood. Parents will find rest and relief using the methods taught in Thomas illuminating book, which is available for only $14.99 at www.templebookpublishing.com. Thomas is also the publisher of a free biweekly enzine called The Praying Parents Report. Subscribe by E-mailing: PrayingParent-subscribe@topica.com
