Section 508 is a edict of the Rehabilitation Act of 1998 that was made law by the federal government. It requires that all federal agency’s electronic and information technology is accessible to people with disabilities ,including employees and members of the general public. According to Timmer, all companies selling information technology to the federal government and any government entity must comply with the Section 508 law. “The law affects your entire organization from design and development of software to the help desk that supports the products, commented Timmer.
