David J. Los Angeles / Manhattan Beach, CA - January 16, 2002 - David J. Brotman, FAIA has announced the formation of Sunset Consultants, a firm that provides strategic, integrated services to professional real estate-related firms, including developers and architects. Prior to founding Sunset Consultants, Brotman served as vice chairman and executive vice president of RTKL Associates Inc., a 1000-person architectural and engineering firm with 14 offices around the world. Brotman brings more than 30 years of knowledge to the new consultancy. His experience includes the design of complex projects worldwide together with extensive management expertise, including firm growth, organizational changes, and expansion into new markets; marketing and negotiating skills with private developers, government entities and commercial owners; and mergers and acquisitions.

Sunset Consultants provides the developer community with expertise in critical planning, evaluating the viability of a project, and identifying an optimal program. The firm also works with clients to help identify the right design team for a particular project; ensure that fees for services are fair; and negotiate contracts accordingly. The firm also offers design critique intended to provide clients with an optimum solution that moves quickly through the approvals process; assists clients in selecting the best construction delivery method and contractor; and monitors construction to ensure that quality, budget, and schedule goals are met.

In addition, Sunset Consultants provides architectural firms and other related entities with a wide range of specialized management services, including strategic planning that helps to identify near and long term goals. This may include ownership transition, sector diversification, expansion of services, and regional as well as international growth. Brotman received his bachelor of science degree in architecture from the University of Cincinnati and has taught at the university level. As a recognized authority on international practice and the design of urban mixed-use and commercial architecture, he is frequently sought as a speaker at real estate development conferences and is a regular contributor to national and international journals. Brotman is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and serves as its Vice President of Regulation and Practice of the California Council. He is a member of many trade organizations including the Urban Land Institute and the International Council of Shopping Centers.
