New Internet Vulnerability Detection Resource for IT Systems
eCommSecurity Offers Diagnostic Vulnerability Assessment
Atlanta, Georgia, December 4, 2001 -- eCommSecurity today announced availability of a new service called Diagnostic Vulnerability Assessment or DVA.
Available to Fortune 1000 and mid-market companies, DVA provides a complete information security vulnerability assessment of the organizations most critical and sensitive information systems and data.
DVA targets specific areas of vulnerability such as firewalls and mail servers that defend mission critical systems and data such as-personnel, payroll, finance and accounting, marketing and sales, customers, engineering, research and development, and intellectual property.
DVA is accomplished by applying eCommSecurity's expertise in combination with a suite of proven security assessment products. Normally completed within one week, DVA provides:
An in-depth vulnerability assessment of critical information systems.
Diagnostics of up to 250 hosts within three Class C subnets
Identification of exploitable passwords, system configurations, and dangerous security practices
A prioritized summary of the potential impact of discovered vulnerabilities
Prioritized recommendations for corrective actions and strategies for ongoing improvements.
Why Perform DVA?
Information resources are among any companys most valuable assets, and increased use of the Internet as well as Intranets and Extranets has created unprecedented risks to these assets.
According to Jeff Moore, eCommSecurity CEO, Downtime from viruses, denial of service and other security breaches is expensive, and can have consequences that could include problems such as liability damages from customers or other third parties, increased insurance premiums, diminished credibility and trust with customers and partners, decreased ability to generate revenue, and the erosion of profits.
DVA helps companies:
Define their most critical information systems
Gain objective, third-party assessment of their security environment
Test security weaknesses without adversely impacting their operations
Create a baseline to measure the continuing effectiveness of implemented security initiatives
Demonstrate corporate responsibility to shareholders by implementing a cost-effective, structured approach to addressing potential information security weaknesses.
Who Should Take Advantage of DVA?
Any individual or organization connected to a network, conducting electronic commerce, potentially vulnerable to disgruntled employees, hackers, or information theft, concerned about potential loss of public trust, image, reputation, privacy, or funds, or desiring to demonstrate due diligence and fiduciary responsibility.
DVA is accomplished in five steps.
Step 1 - Requirements Definition: In this initial step, eCommSecurity explains all components and requirements of the assessment service. In addition, scanning requirements are defined using questionnaires and requirements checklists, systems and networks to be assessed are defined, and available space and equipment are confirmed. The Diagnostic Vulnerability Assessment is scheduled when requirements are finalized.
Step 2 -- Scanning: In this phase, eCommSecurity will initiate scanning to collect information from the computer network.
Step 3 - Analysis and Recommendations: After eCommSecurity performs the scans, the results are analyzed and vulnerabilities are rank-ordered on the basis of severity and potential impact if uncorrected. Using the analysis results, the eCommSecurity team will recommend prioritized, cost-effective corrective measures and safeguards to mitigate the discovered vulnerabilities.
Step 4 -- Presentation of Findings and Recommendations: The eCommSecurity team presents its findings and recommendations first in a draft narrative report and then in a formal presentation. The presentation and delivery of the report allow for questions and discussion that facilitate future development of truly customized solutions.
Step 5 -- Follow-up Requirements: Following presentation and discussion of findings and recommendations, at your request, eCommSecurity will assist in development and implementation of solutions.
