New Class of Potential Antibiotics Licensed by BSKB Medical Ventures, LLC.
NEW VENTURE IS CALLED PYRO PHARMACEUTICALS, INC.
COSTA MESA CA USA - BSKB Medical Ventures, LLC., announced today it has exclusively licensed the rights to commercialize a technology relating to a new class of potential antibiotics from California State University, Fullerton.
NEW DRUG COMPANY LAUNCHED:
To exploit this technology, BSKB Medical Ventures recently established a new company, Pyro Pharmaceuticals, Inc. The new drug company has since licensed the technology from CSUF. In addition, Pyro Pharmaceuticals, Inc. closed a Series "A" financing round in November 2001.
NOVEL METABOLIC PATHWAY:
The licensed technology results from the research of Christopher R. Meyer, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Chemistry & Biochemistry. Dr. Meyer's work focuses on a novel metabolic pathway that is essential for bacterial viability.
NOVEL CLASS OF ANTIBIOTICS:
"Dr. Meyer has identified a unique target that will be used to develop a novel class of antibiotics against a wide range of multi-drug resistant pathogenic microorganisms," says Alan M. Schechter, Managing Director of BSKB Medical Ventures and the Chairman & CEO of the newly formed company.
