Teachers who 'know-how make a big difference:
More than 50% increase in results when teachers know how to build self--esteem in their pupils.
Recent research on self-esteem building in classrooms conducted by The School of Emotional Literacy has demonstrated that the pupils of teachers who 'know how have much better academic results and create cooperative, more peaceful classrooms.
Principal, Elizabeth Morris, said, There were two very significant pieces of information arising from the research. Firstly, teachers who had had some basic training were successfully able to help their pupils improve on 10 scales of a 25 scale Indicator, whereas an untrained teacher made an impact on 6 of them. Secondly, the trained teachers consistently managed to improve the children academic understanding and scores and their social and emotional behaviour in the classroom. The untrained teachers consistently managed to effect a change in the social and emotional areas only."
A teacher who had been trained and took part in the research said, My pupil was transformed by this approach, quite unrecognisable as the same boy that everyone used to dread coming into the classroom. I feel very confident that I can make a real difference to the others now."
The School of Emotional Literacy runs professional training courses for educators including specialised workshops in Building Self Esteem. For more details of the research please phone Rachel Carter, Administrator, on 01452 74 1106 or email principal@schoolofemotional-literacy.com ENDS
