New Twist in Confessing Church Movement

Baton Rouge Churches Team Up To Produce Confessing Church CD-National Debut To Take Place in Atlanta

BATON ROUGE, La.-The congregations and worship teams of First Presbyterian Church and its daughter church, River Community Church in Ascension Parish, have recently released a new CD entitled, Truth and Grace-Songs of a Confessing Church."

The CD, based on the three tenets of the Confessing Church Movement, will have its national debut at the National Celebration of Confessing Churches to be held in Atlanta, February 24-27.

The Lord has truly blessed this project," said Russell Stevenson, pastor of First Presbyterian Church. We are honored that He has provided our worship team with the opportunity to share the simple truths of our Christian faith with a national audience."

The Confessing Church Movement is a grassroots movement within the Presbyterian (USA) denomination that gives member congregations the opportunity to publicly affirm that: 1) Jesus Christ alone is Lord and the way to salvation; 2) Holy Scripture is Gods revealed word, the churchs only infallible rule of faith and life; and, 3) Marriage between a man and a woman is the only relationship within which sexual activity is appropriate.

While the CD project was originally intended to be a tangible way to support other members of the Confessing Church Movement, Truth and Grace-Songs of a Confessing Church" took on new meaning after the tragedies of September 11.

We had a scheduled choir rehearsal on Wednesday, September 12, and many of the worship team members expressed a renewed vision for the CD," explained Nancy Spiller, director of the worship team.

Most remarked how they believed that this project would not only encourage those involved with the Confessing Church Movement but they also believed this CD would be used to bring peace to those who were searching for answers after the terrorist attacks," Spiller further explained.

Truth and Grace-Songs of a Confessing Church" is available at the Bible and Book Center on Government Street in Baton Rouge or may be purchased through First Presbyterian Church, 763 North Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana,7082.
The cost of the CD is $15 and all proceeds from the sale of will go to OneByOne, a national ministry to educate and equip the church to minister the transforming grace and power of the Lord Jesus Christ to those who struggle with issues of sexual identity.
