For Immediate Release

Informa launches media law magazine

London, UK-- February 2002-- Informa Law, the leading intellectual property law magazine publisher, has launched a new title aimed at addressing the legal and regulatory issues facing the media industry. Media World will be primarily targeted at media and entertainment lawyers, IP and IT practitioners and in-house counsel in the media and communications industry. It will also draw readers from all aspects of the media and entertainment industry including broadcasters, performers, publishers, writers and composers, media associations and regulatory bodies. It is to be published 10 times a year by Informa Law, part of the Informa Publishing Group, and joins an established stable of magazines including Trademark World, Copyright World and Patent World.

We want the magazine to act as a conduit between the legal side of the industry and the industry itself," says Nicholas Pratt, editor of Media World and also of IT Law Today, a recently relaunched Informa title. Media associations can address an audience of lawyers with their legal and regulatory concerns and, with Media World as their platform, the lawyers and the regulators can provide answers to these concerns. I dont think there are too many publications in the market that are trying to do this. This year will see a lot of change in the media industry. And as the industry changes, so does the law and we will all need to know how to keep up."

Backed by a distinguished editorial board of industry practitioners and legal professionals, the content of Media World will focus on media contracts; statutory and industry regulation; content and content delivery; landmark cases and judgments; impending legislation; claims management and the implications of technology developments.

Intended to provide informed insight and perspective on issues facing the world of media and entertainment today, the new magazine will look in detail at:

Case reporting -- significant and landmark cases will be discussed and identified, particularly where the media addresses the publication of confidential information disclosing misdeeds of a serious nature.

Media and contractual issues -- contractual arrangements relating to the definition and exploitation of media rights, particularly where the contracts are long term. The magazine is intended to provide negotiators and advisors in everyday practice, ensuring a full understanding of the converging marketplace.

Media and intellectual property -- the magazine will look at issues surrounding IP rights infringement in relation to newly developed forms of use and communication of content.

Regular features such as the 'Market Watch section will enable its readers to stay up to speed with events in the entertainment industry, including deals under negotiation and mergers and acquisitions.

The 'Regulation Watch section will look at pending legislation and regulation and more importantly, the implications for industry. 'Speakers Corner allows media associations a platform to address an audience of media lawyers and professionals with their legal concerns. 'Technology Corner offers an explanation of the latest media technology in laymans terms.

The editorial board boasts leading figures in the media and entertainment industry around the world including big names in media law such as Michael Skrein of Richards Butler and Hamish Porter at Theodore Goddard. It also includes members of industry and academia including Katherine Dumbleton of the BBC, Matthew Pay at NTL and Sallie Spillsbury, a solicitor and senior lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University and a visiting lecturer at the University of Hong Kong.
