An alternative website for PR pros and marketing communications professionals recently launched in an effort to feed news, mental stimuli, humor, and cheap media contacts to 700,000 professionals in the industry.

KANSAS CITY, MO -- 02/13/02 -- Just like the Rocky Horror Picture Show, CornerBarPR.com, a new alternative website for PR pros, wants to open its big, red, virtual lips and tell it like it is every week. The cyber bar's Proprietor, Brenda Clevenger, and Chief Curmudgeon, Rich Barger, are recovering association "aholics." "But our fog lifted and the big idea hit us when we noticed the popularity of senior communicators flocking to pubs after professional association meetings."

CornerBarPR's cheeky commentary, industry news munchies, and spirited approach aim to keep PR pros soberly in the know and coming back for another round. "Our content is sautéed with bar humor, double entendres, and sexual innuendoes to keep patrons from creeping off to stifled industry sites," says Barger.

Recent headlines like "The Best Head You Ever Had" are attracting click-throughs from the site's weekly promotional e-zine, "The Bar Rag." However, prudes and corporate conformers should beware. One Fortune 500, Kansas City-based employee who clicked on the "head" article experienced a computer lockdown when the corporation's not-so-savvy screening system mistook the language to be from a porn site.

This week's lead article, "I'm Just a Sweet Transwebsite," praises forward thinking and shares a link to a sound clip from Rocky Horror's Time Warp track while driving home the flick's mantra, "Don't just dream it, be it."

To achieve the proprietor's wet dream of luring 30,000 monthly regulars by year-end, Clevenger is soft-launching the site in Kansas City and beginning a market-by-market rollout starting in St. Louis later this month.

Though CornerBarPR.com is a free vertical online community, its financial model features a subscription-based media database, Contacts On Tap. For just two Ben Franklins, patrons can purchase access to the 32-market-and-growing on-line media database, which also contains national media contacts for those who dare to attempt to snare the big ones (you know, the Oprahs -- no offense, Oprah -- the Brokaws or the gatekeepers to the next Fortune or Forbes cover). Other on-line databases charge from $1,500 to $11,000.
