MOBILEWAY & SIEMENS WIN THE BATTLE AT SMS2002
Awarded 'Best Practice in Consumer Application for the mobile version of 'BattleMail KungFu
[Singapore, 18 February 2002] Mobileway, world leading service provider managing mobile data transactions across the globe and Siemens Mobile Phones, a global leader in mobile phone manufacturing, today announced their triumph at last nights inaugural SMS2002 awards taking place in Olympia 2. The companies received the award for 'Best Practice in Consumer Application for the mobile version of 'BattleMail KungFu launched in time for Christmas 2001.
BattleMail KungFu, having already reached notoriety among 840,000 users in its web-based version, was launched on Siemens C45 range of handsets, enabling a potential of 200 million subscribers to masquerade as one of a series of characters sending high kicks and karate chops using real-time SMS powered by Mobileway. As the first application to be based upon the principle of revenue sharing, mobile BattleMail KungFu benefits all the parties (mobile operators, Siemens, Mobileway and Battlemail.com) by opening up new channels of revenue for enhanced services across todays incumbent technologies.
Mobileway currently operates an unrivalled network of direct connections with 88 of the Worlds mobile network operators. This provides them with the uncontested ability to act as a single access point to more than 90% of the Worlds mobile users and ensures that they have a strong and pivotal position to play in shaping the future of mobile data for todays and tomorrows increasingly mobile consumers.
It is truly great to be widely recognised for our work with Mobile BattleMail KungFu. It is the first truly global SMS application based upon revenue sharing and is a phenomenal business case to demonstrate the power and reach of mobile data," commented Bernadette Lyons, Managing Director for Mobileway in the UK, who received the award on behalf of the global company. SMS technology has achieved explosive growth both in the UK and globally, with SMS traffic reaching record levels month on month. Today, we at Mobileway are absolutely unique in our ability to reach mobile consumers globally; a feat achieved through bilateral commercial contracts in place with 88 operators around the world. The success of games such as BattleMail KungFu is dependent not only on flawless messaging transfer, but also on the business model that creates revenues for the content owners. It is an honour to be recognised by the industry and I am delighted to receive this award on behalf of our team across the World and Siemens."
Having already received a BAFTA -award nomination in 2001, BattleMail KungFu is certainly grabbing the attention of the new media industry. Since its launch, more than 20,000 fights have taken place across mobile networks, across boundaries and across nationalities. Maybe this fighting game is literally the 'killing application sought for so long by the mobile industry.
