Convergys Corporation (NYSE: CVG), the global leader in integrated billing and customer care services, today announced that its Geneva [TM] software has been implemented and is in operation at Zalto Communications in both Norway and Sweden. Zalto Communications AS, a subsidiary of Telenor Mobile Communications, is a mobile services provider offering a broad range of services including GSM voice and content. The implementation project was completed in less than three months using an IT team from Zalto, Convergys, and Accenture, as well as other IT consultants.
Zalto Communications targets the youth market in Scandinavia with a range of voice and content services. The company's Web site provides full online access to a range of popular products such as ring tones, screen savers, and wallpapers. It also provides full Web self-care facilities to allow customers to monitor and pay their accounts online. Using Geneva, Zalto has integrated its pre- and post-paid customers in a single database. Zalto has also been able to introduce sophisticated discounting such as a 50 percent discount on the call rate after the first five minutes of usage per day.
The introduction of Zalto's new billing system, which included integration with a number of other software packages including sales order processing and zalto.web had to be completed under severe time pressure. One reason for Zalto's selection of Geneva was its proven reputation as a system that can be used to bring new products and services to market very quickly.
Witold Sitek, a partner in Accenture's Communications and High Tech group in Oslo, commented that the project was one of a number of successful Geneva implementations in Europe with which Accenture has been involved. "While many of our clients are looking to introduce innovative new services quickly, the technology required to deliver those services can be complex and challenging to develop and implement. In this situation, we found that Geneva offered the flexibility and configurability we needed to execute quickly." The Geneva software went live in Sweden for Zalto in the second quarter of 2001 and in Norway in the fourth quarter of 2001.
Stephen Thomas, President of Convergys EMEA, commented that in a highly competitive market, service providers and operators were increasingly looking at product-based IT solutions as a way of controlling costs whilst retaining flexibility.
"The emerging market for next-generation mobile promises much in the way of m-commerce and innovative new content-rich services, but the true potential can only be realised if the essential building blocks are in place. By working with Accenture, we have delivered one such building block, offering a powerful solution that will help forward-looking mobile operators to achieve success in the 2.5 and 3G marketplace."
Geneva, Convergys' award-winning ARM software, is a real-time, transaction-based, best in class rating and billing application module offering the performance required by major carriers handling large volumes of data. Geneva can bill for any service or combination of services.
Convergys' modular and scalable product line of end-to-end billing products, application modules, and preintegrated application suites enables communication providers to create fully integrated billing and customer care environments that are highly adaptable, reliable, and cost-effective. Convergys products are based on its proven and innovative next-generation framework, a convergent component-based architecture that provides unsurpassed flexibility, investment protection, and support for convergent services.
