Dokoni, Inc. Announces Launch of Deka

The first visitor access management solution for managing both browser detection and website access control for any type of web-enabled device

SAN DIEGO, February 19, 2002, -- Dokoni, Inc., a provider of professional web development and management tools, today announced the launch of Deka (tm), the first rules-based web development platform to provide an integrated solution for managing both browser detection and site access control. Dokoni has brought together these two functional areas to enable what it calls visitor access management (VAM). Deka puts its browser detection capabilities at the service of a centralized, rules-based access control engine that for the first time lets developers set browser-aware site access control policies. Now developers and site owners can instruct the web server what specific content to deliver to any particular web-enabled device, thereby optimizing a user's experience while successfully broadening customer reach.
"Most well-designed sites use some form of browser detection to serve different content to different types of users," explained Dokoni CEO Benjamin Zukerman, " however, the existing detection tools don't do sufficient rich profiling, nor do they provide any real control over how the web server responds. At the other end of the spectrum are transcoding servers that tend to overpower the problem with complex, high-cost technology. Deka fills the gap between too little solution and too much offering the fastest, most cost-effective way to build websites that adapt and deliver content to any user on any device."
Deka uses rules-based profiling to deliver the right content to each user:
·   Detects over 1,000 unique browser/device combinations
·   Instantly profiles each browser/device combination with any of more than 250 different properties
·   Combines profiles with Visitor Access Management (VAM) Rules to control which users get which content
·   Instantly redirects requests right on the web server, eliminating need for page-level redirection
·   Universal Scripting API allows creation of adaptive pages with any page creation technology
·   Offers both web-based Administrator for centralized rule creation and maintenance, and HTML interface for writing page-specific rules
·   Allows developers or site managers to set site access policies in minutes using predefined Global Behaviors
·   Enables maintenance of consistent set of public URLs while serving different pages to different types of access mechanisms

Deka responds to the need to accommodate the persistent and growing diversity of access mechanisms and delivery contexts on the web. Capability differences among traditional desktop users are still a factor. Majorities of users still browse with screen resolutions of less than 1024 x 768, color depths lower than 24-bit, and connections of 56k or slower, while substantial minorities lack (or have disabled) JavaScript, Java, and popular plugins like Flash. In addition to this, web professionals must cope with an array of newer challenges such as: increasingly-complex standards (CSS, DOM, XHTML), rapid proliferation of wireless Internet devices (phones, PDAs), constant growth of "good" and "bad" robots, web services protocols, web accessibility guidelines, and the like. All of this complexity constitutes a significant challenge for any website looking to keep its users satisfied. At the same time, site owners who adopt practical solutions that focus on managing the complexity, such as Deka, will realize significant competitive advantages.

Deka is currently available for a free, 30-day trial download or purchase at http://www.dokoni.com/shop.cgi/products/dekatrial.html. The Developer Edition license, available at $595.00 per server, covers unlimited use in development, staging and testing environments. A web-server license costs $2,500.00 per server and covers unlimited use in a production or commercial environment. . Deka is available for the following web servers and operating systems: Microsoft(R) IIS 4.0+ on Windows(R) NT(R) 4.0 and 2000 Server; Apache 1.3.x on Sun(TM) Solaris(TM) 2.7 and 2.8; Apache 1.3.x on Linux (glibc 2.1.2 or higher).
