Greek-American Businessman and Humanitarian to receive Environmental Education Award during Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games

AEF, headquartered in Emeryville, California, is proud to announce that it has been granted a Meritorious Achievement award for environmental education by the Organizing Committee of the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. This award was presented to AEF at a ceremony at the Salt Lake Winter Olympics at the Park City Live Site last night, February 19th.

Emeryville, CA, February 19, 2002; The Olympic Organizing Committee of the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Games will recognize Tony Diamantidis, a Greek-American and executive director and founder of The Athens Environmental Foundation (AEF) in the Spirit of the Land Award ceremony taking place tonight in Park City, Utah. AEF, headquartered in Emeryville, California, is proud to announce that it has been granted a Meritorious Achievement award for environmental education by the Organizing Committee of the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. This award will be presented to AEF at a ceremony at the Salt Lake Winter Olympics at the Park City Live Site tonight, February 19th, 7:15 -- 8:00 p.m.

The Athens Environmental Foundation (AEF) is a non-profit organization established to support Olympic host cities in meeting environmental challenges and responsibilities associated with the preparation for and hosting of the Olympic Games. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) adopted the Environment as the third principle of Olympism along with Sport and Culture in 1994. Since that time, environmental responsibility has been at the heart of the Olympic movement. AEF is actively helping Greece in its efforts to host the 2004 Summer games by organizing and promoting environmentally responsible and proactive projects that will positively affect the environment in and around Athens, before, during and after the Games.

Mr. Diamantidis has worked in conjunction with the IOC on Sport and the Environment. In November 2001, he was invited to the annual worldwide Olympic conference on Sport and the Environment, which took place in Nagano, Japan, where he addressed the conference about the upcoming Athens Olympics.

Tony Diamantidis is Executive Director of the Athens Environmental Foundation (AEF). Mr. Diamantidis is CEO of Chemical Safety Corporation, an environmental management computer technology company based in Emeryville, California and Athens, Greece. He has served in senior environmental technology capacities in both public and corporate entities worldwide, including the US EPA, the University of California and the US Departments of Justice, Defense and Energy. He has advised numerous organizing committees and sports related organizations and has led environmental management systems development efforts for many organizations. Mr. Diamantidis holds an MBA from St. Marys College in California, a BA in English/Communications from Columbia University in New York and an AAS degree in Computer Science from Pace University in New York.
