Deadline for National Competition Approaches
Deadline for national talent competition approaches. Uplifting Minds II is a competition for youth 7 - 21 in music, art, literature and fashion design held annually in Baltimore, Houston and soon Los Angeles.

Talent Competition is Thursday, Feburary 28, 2002. The competition features
music, art (including dance), literature (including song writing) and fashion design and is free to enter. Competitors from across the country will showcase before their peers and professional executives in the industry. Some industry executives who will be present are Mathew Knowles, manager of Destinyıs Child and recently NAS; MCLyte; Jazz from Dru Hill; Kevin Peck, original manager of Dru Hill; Gary Wade, Sr., president of Omni Distribution and Jimmy Maynes, Sr. V.P. of A&R and R&B at Jive Records/NY.
"Uplifting Minds II" is a national talent competition held annually at Security Square Mall in Baltimore and at North Line Mall in Houston, Texas. The "Uplifting Minds II" Talent Competition's Baltimore event is presented by The Baltimore Times, the most widely distributed African American-owned weekly publication in Maryland and the Houston event is presented by Music World Music/Columbia Records owned by Mathew Knowles.
The competition, for ages 7 - 21, will showcase the music, song writing and dance categories. The others will be prejudged, displayed at the event and winners announced at the end of the competition.
The April competition is sponsored by Radio One, Security Square Mall, Music World Music/Columbia Records, MCLyte, WMAR-TV, LOVE-TV, Maynes Entertainment, Jive Records/NY, 410 Music, Addlib Entertainment; www.snapshotartgallery, Taj Entertainment, Allure Limo Service, Omni Distribution, Grey Sandz Entertainment, www.comediang.com, www.tonos.com, Smile, Inc., Balloons Over Maryland, www.urbanmegamusic.com and Freelance Associates (a public relations and promotions company).
The event begins with a "professional panel," followed by the competition
and ends with by the "professional showcase." The professional showcase will
have performances some of today's hottest artists. In 2001, the competition
was honored with the performances of Jazz and Sisqo (Def Jam Records), Ruff
Endz (Epic Records) and Talib Kareem (formerly of Imajin).
