SAFECO CHOOSES SYBARIS ANTIGEN TO PROTECT 15,000 USERS AGAINST THE ONGOING THREAT OF E-MAIL VIRUSES

Sybari Continues to Penetrate Financial Services Sector as
Recognized Technology Innovator in the Insurance Industry
Identifies Antigen as Best-In-Class Anti-Virus Solution
for their Microsoft Exchange Servers

Singapore-(February 26, 2002)-Sybari Software, Inc., the premier developers of Antigen, a comprehensive antivirus, content management, and e-mail security solution for Microsoft Exchange environments, today announced that SAFECO, a Fortune 500 company based in Seattle that sells insurance and related financial products, has selected Antigen to secure their Exchange servers from e-mail viruses, worms, and malicious code. SAFECO joins the growing number of financial institutions, including Merrill Lynch and Visa, which depend on Antigen to keep their messaging platforms and networks virus free.

SAFECO relies heavily on its Exchange servers for their openness and ability to handle communication, document, and file exchanges shared among their 15,000 users, so sustaining a virus free environment is a priority in order to maintain productivity. The openness of these collaborative environments, however, leaves them vulnerable to virus threats and hacker intrusion.

Recent e-mail viruses such as SIRCAM and Badtrans.b have proven how devastating the damage caused by infection can be in terms of lost time, data, productivity, and disaster recovery efforts. Computer Economics, a Carlsbad, CA based research firm, ranked the SIRCAM worm as one of the most destructive viruses in 2001, with over 2.3 million infections and total damages of over $1 Billion. With new e-mail borne viruses and worms spreading almost daily, the need for a robust, proactive antivirus solution becomes an absolute necessity if companies want to protect the electronic assets and intellectual property that are essential in todays digital economy.

Because of the phenomenal increase in viruses being spread by e-mail, it was critical for us to find a solution which would successfully and completely scan and clean all e-mail at the root," stated Rodger Anderson, Senior Systems Analyst for SAFECO. Antigens ease-of-use, ability to detect infected mail, and its content management functionality made it the clear choice over the competitive solutions we tested."

After conducting a full evaluation of available solutions, including products from Trend Micro, Network Associates, and others to determine which would be best at protecting its Exchange messaging infrastructure, SAFECO concluded that Sybaris Antigen would provide the best line of proactive defense against the onslaught of Internet and e-mail-borne viruses. Antigen is a server-level solution that leverages a deep understanding of the Exchange groupware environment and offers unique content management components and multiple scan engine management for virus scanning.

Anderson continued, When we purchased Antigen to assist in protecting our e-mail environment from viruses, we were assigned a Support Representative who has not only been responsive to our needs but on more than one occasion has been proactive in warning us to potentially devastating viruses. Needless to say, I am more than satisfied, even spoiled, by Sybaris high level of customer support."

Sybaris Antigen is the only solution with a choice of up to five leading scan engine technologies from Network Associates, Norman Data Defense, Sophos, and two engines from Computer Associates' eTrust antivirus offering. In order to eliminate a single point of failure and to ensure the highest degree of reliability, Antigen institutes an extra measure of protection by enabling users to run multiple-scan engines simultaneously, providing crash protection and virtually eliminating network infection. Antigen also comes equipped with content management facilities that provide the proactive support needed to maintain a virus free groupware environment. With the Antigen File Filter (AFF), administrators can filter e-mail attachments by file name, type, or wild card. As a pre-emptive content management feature, this is an effective tool for administrators to use following notification of a virus outbreak until signature files become available from anti-virus vendors with proprietary engines and virus labs.

SAFECOs selection of Antigen underscores our commitment to our customers and the ability to deliver best of breed solutions for Exchange messaging platforms, further supporting our growing leadership position in the market," said Zubi Khawaja, Managing Director, Asia-Pacific for Sybari Software.
