DUMPSTER DIVING GOES CHIC

CreatingHomeDecor.com Announces Trash To Treasure" Contest To Encourage Earth Day Participation

EVERYTHING COUNTS. Recovering the sofa, rescuing wood tables, and recycling regular household containers for storage all help keep our landfills from filling with unwanted debris. When did helping the earth become so chic? This year, CreatingHomeDecor.com is holding a contest called Trash To Treasure" challenging crafters and do-it-yourself decorators to show their best projects where they primarily use recycled or repurposed materials to make home décor. Visitors to the site can enter their own project design, until April 22-Earth Day, in a contest to win a prize package from several craft and decorating product manufacturers.

Usually, Earth Day events are geared around energy conservation, clean water, and more naturalist and environmentalist centered activities. Our goal is to bring awareness, to a different segment of consumers, that there are more activities than those that help the earth. By recycling used or discarded materials to make our home décor, we save energy and resources by not having new furniture manufactured, and help keep unwanted debris from collecting in landfills. We want to show that crafters and do-it-yourself decorators really can make a difference and share ideas to encourage repurposing materials in decorating. And, because there is nothing quite as satisfying as something made with your own two hands, Kelley will publish several project ideas on creating beautiful home furnishings using recycled materials.

CreatingHomeDecor.com is a Web site for do-it-yourself decorators and craft enthusiasts. Created and maintained by Kelley Taylor, a craft and decorating project designer, the site contains links, resources, decorating and design information as well as original home decorating craft projects that help inspire the novice to create their own surroundings.

The contest begins March 1, and will end on Earth Day, April 22. Winner will be announced on April 26.

Entries must be received by electronic submission. Rules for contest, list of prizes and entry form can be found on the site. Simply visit: http://www.CreatingHomeDecor.com for more information.
