ComROAD AG at CeBIT 2002, Hall 26, Stand C68 - ComROAD and partners with new telematics products at CeBIT 2002
Unterschleissheim (Germany), March 4, 2002 - At this year's international telecommunications and computer fair CeBIT, ComROAD AG, worldwide leading provider of telematic networks - together with its technology partners InfoMove (Seattle, USA), T+T netcom (Vienna) and Socratec (Regensburg, Germany) - is to present new telematics products using the technological and communication standards Bluetooth, GPRS, Java and Linux.
Key solution GTTS
ComROAD AG's Global Transport Telematic System (GTTS) is the market-leading solution for setting up complete infrastructures which enable the transmission of applications and information services via wireless, mobile communication networks. On the basis of worldwide technological standards like the GSM or GPRS mobile radio standards, Bluetooth, the satellite navigation system GPS as well as globally available internet technologies (see Technical information), GTTS allows the implementation of all applications and services for mobile users which can be defined as "wireless killer applications".
Wireless killer applications on a telematic platform
The term "wireless killer applications" denotes applications which decide users to buy a mobile phone or PDA with new technology and pay monthly fees. These applications include:
- worldwide dynamic off-board navigation
- location-based content (e.g. local information on gas stations, hotels, restaurants or supermarkets)
- e-mail communication
- interactive games
- security features (e.g. emergency call and breakdown assistance)
At CeBIT, the GTTS telematic solutions are to be presented in combination with ComROAD's in-vehicle computer StreetGuard(tm) as well as mobile units by Casio, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Sharp, Ericsson and Motorola.
Partner exhibits ranging from life style to transport management
At the CeBIT stand, new telematics products and services provided by ComROAD's international technology partners will also be showcased: The US partner InfoMove will present a number of new life-style telematics products based upon Microsoft PocketPC. The Austrian ComROAD subsidiary T+T netcom has integrated the functionality of the GTTS telematic system into its mobile merchandise information system MOWIS and extended it to an efficient fleet management solution for the transport and logistics industry. Another solution for the transport sector will be shown by the Regensburg-based telematics specialist Socratec: "FreightView", a pioneering on-board computer for powerful transport and fleet management, allows tracking of freight in containers and trailers at any time.
Technical information
Wireless Killer Applications
According to an analysis by The Strategis Group, the worldwide number of people using location-based services is to increase from 70 million in 2002 to more than 220 million in 2005. ComROAD, as provider of telematic technology, aims at offering the "killer applications" dynamic off-board navigation, location-based services, e-mail communication and interactive games at a reasonable price and to anyone using a mobile phone. Since built-in telematic and navigation systems with a big screen are still being used in high-class cars, the introduction of the Bluetooth standard enables the communication of these devices with mobile phones and PDAs - and thus a flexible use of telematic services.
Wireless data transmission via Bluetooth and GPRS
Bluetooth is a new wireless interface which is able to transfer data between mobile phones, handheld and in-vehicle computers. GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is an extension of the GSM mobile radio standard for the high-speed transmission of data packets. GPRS networks have already been set up in many European and Asian countries. The leading US mobile network operators have also decided to build up full ground coverage for the GSM-GPRS standard. Bluetooth and GPRS will be the future standards for all mobile phones and pocket PCs as well as for Palm and Linux PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant).
