In 1905, the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a missionary order of Catholic priests and brothers, acquired the land for use as a vacation and training ground for the students of the Oblate seminary in San Antonio. For over 60 years, every Oblate entering the final phase of his priestly apprenticeship, came to Oblate Villa for the summer months. Older citizens of Port Lavaca remember with pleasure, the sound of the young men's voices raised in song as they sailed on the bay on moonlit nights or early in the morning. The two-story chapel, which was built in the early 1900's has been restored and presents a wonderful opportunity for an exciting business venture.
