WALTHILL SCHOOL CABLECAST STATION ONLINE
K-12 school on the Omaha Reservation in Nebraska will cablecast weekly school news on local cable channel
WALTHILL, NE --- Walthill Public Schools long awaited cablecast station is now online. After its first successful live broadcasts on February 21 and 22, Walthill journalism students will produce a weekly newscast, beginning this Thursday, March 7.
The program can be viewed on cable channel 18 in the Walthill area. Since its successful test runs, it has been cablecasting the schools daily bulletin and community announcements. Beginning March 7, it will feature a 5 to 10 minute news program focusing on school events. It will air Thursdays at 9:30 am and 3:30 pm. The station is located in Walthill Public Schools distance learning lab.
The program will be anchored by Jennifer R., a senior, and Nilah G., a junior, while Walthills middle school journalism students will do most of the reporting.
Media Relations Coordinator and Journalism Instructor Jeva Singh-Anand stated the station may feature other programming in the foreseeable future. Videotaped assemblies, athletics events, and other activities could be cablecast, he said.
The station was part of Walthills 2000-01 School Improvement Plan.
Blair, NE based utility Huntel Cablevision provided services and material worth in excess of $14,000 to make this ambitious project possible.
