SolarMetric Releases Software Targeting High-End Projects - Kodo(tm) JDO Enterprise Edition Improves Integration with Application Servers

SolarMetric will start selling licenses of the Enterprise Edition of its Kodo(tm) JDO product today. Kodo JDO is an industry-leading development tool for accessing relational databases, and the Enterprise Edition allows larger customers to realize the benefits of the JDO specification using a tool specifically developed to meet the rigorous application server environment.

SolarMetric, a company spearheaded by MIT alumni, will start selling licenses of the Enterprise Edition of its Kodo(tm) JDO product today. Kodo JDO is an industry-leading development tool for accessing relational databases.

"SolarMetric's Enterprise Edition allows our larger customers to realize the benefits of the JDO specification using a tool specifically developed for their rigorous application server environment," said Neelan Choksi, President of SolarMetric. "Paired with SolarMetric's top-notch customer service, this product is ideal for development teams for whom quality and reliability are essential."

SolarMetric's Kodo JDO Enterprise Edition Version 2.2 is a powerful implementation of the Sun's Java(TM) Data Objects (JDO) specification that includes new functionality making interactions with relational databases even easier. Kodo JDO Enterprise Edition offers increased integration with major J2EE application servers such as IBM's WebSphere, BEA's WebLogic, and the open-source JBoss.

"One of the exciting things about the Enterprise Edition is its implementation of standard hooks to seamlessly tie into J2EE-compliant application servers. The Enterprise Edition allows JDO transactions to be governed by the application server and simplifies installation, configuration, and deployment," said Patrick Linskey, SolarMetric's Vice President of Engineering. "We're looking forward to introducing a number of new advanced features in the Enterprise Edition over the next six months."

Starting today, SolarMetric is offering a limited-time discount on the license price of Kodo JDO Enterprise Edition. The Enterprise Edition will retail for $2000, but will be available for $1699 until March 15, 2002. In addition, current license holders of Kodo JDO Standard Edition may upgrade to the Enterprise Edition gaining a full credit for their purchase price of the Standard Edition.

SolarMetric also offers Kodo JDO Standard Edition. Standard Edition effectively provides a low-cost path for businesses to leverage the specification in environments where application servers are not required. It was released in early February, and has sold successfully worldwide.

Kodo JDO Enterprise Edition and Kodo JDO Standard Edition are now available for evaluation and purchase at http://www.solarmetric.com/Software/Kodo_JDO/.

About Kodo JDO
Kodo JDO is SolarMetric's implementation of Sun's Java Data Objects specification. Kodo JDO provides access to relational databases through the JDO specification, enabling Java developers to use existing relational database technology from Java without needing to know SQL or be an expert in relational database design. It can be used with existing database schemas, or can automatically generate its own schema.

Kodo JDO has been tested against IBM DB2 UDB 7.2, InstantDB 3.26, Microsoft SQLServer 8.00, MySQL 3.23.43, Oracle 8.1.7, and PostgreSQL 6.5. Support for other databases not on this list can easily be added to Kodo JDO, either by a third party, or by SolarMetric's consulting team.

Kodo JDO Standard Edition is a complete solution for developers who need a fully-functional JDO solution but aren't interested in using JDO in concert with a J2EE application server.

Kodo JDO Enterprise Edition is a fully spec-compliant JDO implementation. It is the ideal choice for applications that will be run in a J2EE application server, such as BEA's WebLogic, IBM's WebSphere, or JBoss. It permits integrating JDO operations into globally-managed transactions, letting all JDO transactional operations be governed by the application server.

Additionally, SolarMetric is working on several add-on products, including advanced caching options that will be useful for many server-based applications.

About Sun's Java Data Objects Specification
The Java Data Objects (JDO) specification is a new specification sponsored by Sun Microsystems. It defines a standard set of interfaces for storing Java objects in data stores such as relational databases.
