On the Road Again: Cross-bearing Minister Begins Annual Easter Trek
The past headlines have read: “Lumbering from Houston to Austin”, “Minister Back on the Streets, and “Cross-bearing Minister Begins Annual Easter Trek”.
Senior Pastor Mike Pierce is at it again, pulling a 75 pound wooden cross 165 miles along the road from Houston to Austin. The soon-to-be 54 year old Native Texan has become a familar sight along the roadside since he first began pulling the cross in 1987.
This year’s “cross-walk” from Houston to Austin wil be number thirteen for Pastor Mike Pierce Sr. of the House of Prayer Church and Farm, headquartered outside of Paige, Texas. The pilgrimage is to call attention to Jesus Christ’s sufferring and death on the cross.
The journey will begin Tuesday, March 19, 8:00 o’clock A.M. from God’s Word in Action Church on Wilson Road and Humble Place (just north of KSBJ radio in Humble, Texas. As in past years, the cross-walk will move from Humble along F.M. 1960 west to U.S. HWY 290 west, through Waller, Prarie View, Hempstead, Brenham, Burton, Giddings, Paige, McDade, Elgin and Manor, on to the State Capitol in Austin on Easter Sunday. Mike expects to walk about 15 miles each day.
All are welcome and invited for a non-denominational worship service Easter Sunday, March 31, 2002 at 1:00 o’clock P.M. in front of the State Capitol Building. You can come to praise the Lord, share your testimonies, and if you are a musician, share in the Lord’s music.
