CLEARWATER, Fla., March 5 / -- Visiosonic Ltd., owners of one
of the world's most active Internet sites for DJs, has launched name
registration for the top-level domain extension ".DJ" at the company's home
page, www.pcdj.com .
    "PCDJ.com is the ideal home for dot DJ name registration," said
Visiosonic's CEO, Joe Vangieri. "We have one million DJs on our mailing list,
and each day we log 500,000 unique visits by DJs from all over the world."
    Vangieri says pricing for domain names with the .DJ extension is similar
to the pricing for domain names bearing the .TV extension.
    "Most dot DJ names can be registered for fifty dollars annually," said
Vangieri. "This includes the thousands of domain names important to
commercial radio stations and their on-air talent -- names like
www. wabc.dj, www. kissfm.dj, www. k-rock.dj, and www. morningshow.dj.
They're all currently available at the start of the Dot DJ launch -- but
probably won't be for long."
    Vangieri says that most club, concert, and wedding DJs will also be able
to register their first or second choice .DJ Web names for $50.
    Visiosonic will offer premium names like www. nyc.dj for $500 yearly.
The company has priced www. mp3.dj at $100,000 per year. Their top-of-the-
line domains www. club.dj and www. radio.dj can be leased for $500,000
yearly. Vangieri says a $50,000 premium name has already been registered by a
UK entertainment company, and a US record label has expressed interest in the
www. mp3.dj domain.
    "We've removed a few high-profile radio DJs (www. howardstern. dj,
www. rickdees.dj, etc.) and concert DJs (www. carlcox.dj,
www. paulvandyk.dj, etc.) from the database so their names won't be grabbed
by fans or squatters -- but we obviously can't protect everyone," said
Vangieri. "If your livelihood as a DJ depends on your name, your best
protection is to reserve it as soon as possible."
    Domain names with the .DJ extension operate exactly like top-level domain
names ending with .COM, .ORG, or .NET extensions, and are accessible to Web
users around the world.
    Vangieri said anyone can register a .DJ name.
    "Dot DJ names are not just for professionals," said Vangieri.
    The .DJ extension is the assigned two-letter country code for the Republic
of Djibouti, in East Africa.
