Opportunities to Study Abroad And earn a Secondary School Credit In July 2002

Secondary school students can study abroad for the entire month of July and earn a credit towards their high school diploma. New programs this year in Greece/Italy, Prague and Scotland/Ireland.

Summer 2002 programs for secondary school students are being organized by the Centre for Education and Training, Peel District School Board
in association with Global Journeys Inc. For the entire month of July students can enhance their educational experience, earn a credit and travel through Greece/Italy,Prague,or Scotland/Ireland.

For thousands of years, people have traveled beyond the physical boundaries of their own countries in search of deeper understanding. International education has always been regarded as beneficial, and never has the concept been more critical than it is today. Global education allows students to experience, first-hand, different cultures, traditions, and ways of life. It fosters independence and establishes connections. Most importantly though, it can equip students with the capacity to appreciate different perspectives - a quality that will prove invaluable in our increasingly "global" world.

These programs offer students from all public and private secondary schools the opportunity to earn a ministry approved Ontario Secondary School Credit course at the New Grade 12 level or an Ontario Academic Credit (OAC) and travel simultaneously. Think of visiting Greece and Italy to earn a credit in Classical Civilization or Philosophy; English Language and Literature in Scotland and Ireland; or Modern Western Civilization in Prague in the Czech Republic. Students will enjoy the wonders of these regions along with qualified and well-traveled teachers and supervisory staff. Such an incredible way to enhance a learning experience for students ages 16-19 during the month of July!

Students reside in hotels or university residences where they can meet students from all over the world and classes are usually held in the mornings. During the afternoons, evenings and weekends recreational activities and optional excursions are organized to give students the opportunity to become well acquainted with the cities in which they are residing and all that these regions have to offer. Imagine visiting some of the most impressive archaeological sites, white washed houses above hilltops and the sparkling blue waters of Greece, the magnificent Vatican, ruins of Pompeii and bustling city of Rome, the impressive landscape of Ireland and majestic castles of Scotland, or the stunning architecture and cobbled streets of Prague and the captivating Bohemian and Moravian regions in the Czech Republic.
