for Inaugural Awards for Professionalism
The Network Professional Association (NPA) has announced a call for entries for the organizationÕs first annual Awards for Professionalism. The awards program, co-sponsored by NetWorld+Interop, will recognize individual excellence in the networking profession across several categories. Winners will be announced at Networld+Interop 2002 Las Vegas , held May 5-10, 2002 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Winners to be announced at NetWorld+Interop 2002 Las Vegas
March 4, 2002 Ð TUSTIN, CA Ð The Network Professional Association (NPA) today announced a call for entries for the organizationÕs first annual Awards for Professionalism. The awards program, co-sponsored by NetWorld+Interop, will recognize individual excellence in the networking profession across several categories. Winners will be announced at Networld+Interop 2002 Las Vegas , held May 5-10, 2002 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, where they will receive a specially designed, personalized trophy.
NPA officials conceived of the awards as a vehicle for acknowledging the outstanding achievements of networking professionals in the field. Categories for nominations include:
Best Networking Professional Ð Career Achievement Award.
Most Innovative Networking Project or Implementation. There will be four recipients of this award in the following subcategories:
Corporate implementation
Independent network contractor implementation
Small business implementation
System integrator implementation
Best "Rookie" or New Networking Professional (five or fewer years of experience)
Youngest Networking Person
According to the NPA chairman of the board, Jim Belasco, "The awards are consistent with the NPA mission of advancing the networking industry toward a profession Ð an international community of technically astute individuals that analyzes and solves networking challenges while promoting ethics and standards."
By teaming with NetWorld+Interop, the NPA hopes to enhance the prestige and visibility of award winners. "NetWorld+Interop is truly a catalyst for the networking industry and certainly the most appropriate venue for the NPAÕs awards ceremony," said Jim Belasco. "We appreciate their co-sponsorship as well as the forum that they are providing for the recognition of these premier individuals in our industry."
Candidates must be certified networking professionals. Complete nomination guidelines and entry forms can be found online at the NPA and NetWorld+Interop Web sites --- www.npa.org/awards and http://www.key3media.com/interop/lv2002/, respectively. Deadline for nominations is March 26 and all winners will be announced at a special ceremony on May 8, 2002 at 12 noon in room N-112 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. An independent panel consisting of industry media representatives and senior networking professionals will judge entries.
