NTMA Launches New Training Videos Showing How Companies Are Implementing "Lean" In Real World Environments

FORT WASHINGTON, MD The National Tooling and Machining Association announces the video release of its Lean Manufacturing and Set-Up Time Reduction workshop from the 2001 NTMA Fall Conference in Las Vegas, NV. This in-depth look at lean manufacturing and set-up time reduction is being presented, along with a full-featured workbook, on two VHS videocassettes.
The moderator, Charlie Colosky, is the President of Operations Development Associates, Incorporated. Mr. Colosky gives an overview of lean manufacturing and explains the organizational benefits obtained from its implementation. Mr. Colosky examines common problems within manufacturing industries and teaches the tools and techniques for correcting them. Mr. Colosky provides real-world examples, making the material easy to comprehend and practical to implement.
In addition to Mr. Colosky, five NTMA members share their experience with lean manufacturing and set-up time reduction. Mark Lashinske, from Modern Industries, speaks on the concepts, processes, and organizational improvements from the implementation of lean enterprise.
Steve Tamasi from Boston Centerless Incorporated, Woburn, MA, details the components of lean manufacturing, shares the success of lean manufacturing at Boston Centerless, and gives insight into stumbling blocks along the way.
Dick Patterson from WGI Incorporated, Southwick, MA, reveals the success WGI has had with lean manufacturing and set-up time reduction. Mr. Patterson elaborates on cellular manufacturing and its benefits, Total Preventative Maintenance, tool dispensing machines, and lean thinking and the P.O. process.
Randy Hatcher of Ultra Machine Company, Hamel, MN, illustrates the systems used at UMC to implement set-up time reduction. Mr. Hatcher explains what was changed, how employees were trained, and where UMC is at today. Mr. Hatcher also touches on Six Sigma and the importance of elimination of variation in an organization.
The final speaker, Jack H. Schron, Jr., from Jergens Incorporated, Cleveland, OH, gives specific examples of set-up time reduction. Mr. Schron breaks down the steps to reducing machine down time and reports on a case study for machining centers.
