Can't conceive why nothings happening?

Welsh business woman today launches the UK's first home fertilty test kits for couples

Cant conceive why nothings happening?

A WELSH businesswoman yesterday launched a home fertility testing kit to take the heartache of trying to start a family.

Jacqui Malpass, chief executive of Bridgend (UK)-based Real Life Solutions, claims the BabyStart kits are the first in the world aimed at both men and women - and could ease worry for would-be parents.

The kits can help infertile couples to identify problems early and fast-track them to getting medical help.

Ms Malpass, 41, said, "Our aim is to take the guesswork out of fertility - just as home kits have achieved for pregnancy testing. We hope to reduce the waiting period for couples trying for a baby."

Latest figures show only a quarter of couples will conceive in the first month of trying. Two thirds take six months and 80pc up to a year.

The BabyStart kits contain a sperm-count test for the man and an ovulation test for the woman. These will give couples an indication of their state of fertility - and flag up problems early rather then going through months of worry.
The women's tests measure the levels of Luteinising Hormone (LH) in urine. Concentration of LH in a urine samples rises dramatically the day before ovulation. According to Ms Malpass, in clinical trials the measurement of LH is around 99pc reliable.

Ms Malpass said, "Normally doctors will only see a woman under 35 after she has been trying for a year and after six months if she is over 35. This kit puts people in control of their own fertility awareness."

Ms Malpass, introduced the BabyStart based on her own personal experience of trying for a baby.
She said, "Like many career women today, I have not started my family yet. But my biological clock began to tick in my late-30s, and I chose to ignore it.

"Now aged 41, I have made the decision to start my family, if I am able. This will mean coming off the pill, checking my natural cycles and using the BabyStart kit to fast-track to pregnancy."

The BabyStart Kit costs 31.99 and for each sold, 1 will be donated to infertility charity CHILD (www.child.org.uk). It is being marketed online at www.reallifesolutions.co.uk
