HospITech Solutions performs HIPAA Assessment for major NY Hospital

HospITech Solutions, the healthcare information technology consulting division of Computer Reserves has performed a HIPAA initial assessment for its client, Maimonides Medical Center. HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, mandates standards relating to the privacy and security of patient data.

HospITech Solutions has completed an initial assessment for Maimonides Medical Center's HIPAA compliance efforts. Maimonides is a 705-bed facility located in NY and is the third largest independent teaching institution in the nation.

This engagement addressed the standards defined by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act relating to patient data coding, electronic transmission of patient data and patient data privacy as well as security measures.

"Maimonides is addressing HIPAA in-house, however, involving consultants in our efforts adds a level of much-needed expertise and guidance," stated Walter Fahey, VP and CTO of Maimonides. "Having Hospitech perform this high-level, initial assessment has helped Maimonides determine the human and security system resource needs as well as the budget requirements for our upcoming HIPAA compliance efforts" he added.

The resulting report included first estimates of equipment or other capital improvement costs, projected HIPAA-compliance program activities and associated timelines, and anticipated personnel resources required to reach compliance.
