This press release is for manufacturing and service companies. IPPSA Objectives: 1)Raise awareness of production improvement benefits available from advanced scheduling technology. 2)Establish procedures for making an effective transition from infinite to advanced scheduling technology. 3)Establish planning and scheduling performance parameters. 4)Promote the integration of Material and Capacity Management applications. 5)Provide a bulletin board listing job openings in industry. 6)Maintain a list of URL?s of pertinent white papers on advanced scheduling. 7)Additional functions to be defined by the steering committee. IPPSA?s primary objective is to educate companies on why and how to move from traditional scheduling that assumes infinite capacity to finite capacity analysis. Most companies continue to use traditional planning and scheduling systems that assume infinite capacity. Since this is never true, it results in unfeasible schedules.

International Production Planning and Scheduling Association (IPPSA)

IPPSA was established in September 2001 to expand the knowledge of advanced planning and scheduling technology among manufacturing companies. The demand for accurate schedules, short cycle times and predictable delivery has elevated planning and scheduling to a paramount position of importance for manufacturing companies.

Traditional manufacturing software is based on infinite capacity scheduling methods that do not result in feasible schedules. Today?s market demands more accuracy, shorter cycle time and predictable delivery dates. The agenda for IPPSA will be to raise the level of knowledge about how and why finite capacity and other advanced scheduling systems produce feasible solutions and increase production performance.

IPPSA Mission Statement

IPPSA is dedicated to improving manufacturing production performance and profitability through the collection and dissemination of advanced planning and scheduling technology. IPPSA aims to close the gap that exists between scheduling theory and current manufacturing practice.

IPPSA Objectives:

1)Raise awareness of production improvement benefits available from advanced scheduling technology.
7)Develop and maintain a dictionary of terms, acronyms, and phrases use within the industry to improve communication of basic principles and practices.
8)Additional functions to be defined by the steering committee.

IPPSA's primary objective is to educate companies on why and how to move from traditional scheduling that assumes infinite capacity to finite capacity analysis. Most companies continue to use traditional planning and scheduling systems that assume infinite capacity. Since this is never true, it results in unfeasible schedules.

The following services are being developed to accomplish the IPPSA mission objectives:

IPPSA List Service - This free list service was launched in September 2001. The list service provides a web-based forum for members to communicate and network with other individuals that are also in pursuit of advanced planning and scheduling technology. IPPSA invites you to join this free list service. Join by sending an email to: IPPSA-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

IPPSA Dictionary - It is the purpose of the Definitions Committee to provide Association members, Production Planning and Scheduling system suppliers, and system application users with a standard statement for the meaning of words, acronyms, and phrases that are used in the domain of production planning and scheduling, particularly as applied to Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) and Finite Capacity Scheduling (FCS). The intent is to publish definitions that will be accepted as an industry standard, thereby improving communication among those who design, develop, supply, apply and use advanced planning and scheduling systems.

IPPSA Website - The website is scheduled to be launched June 2002. The website will offer educational information including white papers, new research and development notices, seminar and workshop announcements and other pertinent information that supports advancement in manufacturing productivity.

IPPSA Seminars and Workshops ? IPPSA management has developed planning and scheduling seminars and workshops to educate and train manufacturing management and operational personnel. The seminars are available as public or private in-house seminars. Public seminars will be scheduled in various countries throughout the world and will be posted on the website. Advise IPPSA if you would like a public seminar scheduled at a location near you.

Traditional manufacturing software is based on infinite capacity scheduling methods that do not result in feasible schedules. Many companies continue to use infinite scheduling; however current demands require more accuracy, shorter cycle time and predictable delivery dates. The agenda for IPPSA will be to raise the level of knowledge about how and why finite capacity and other advanced scheduling systems produce feasible solutions and increase production performance.

The association will be user driven and will create guiding principles to assist association members in understanding the various scheduling methods commercially available. A dedicated user supported association appears to be the best solution to establishing advanced scheduling technology.

Become involved by joining the free IPPSA List Service and stay tuned for future information about the association.
