WALTHILL PUBLIC SCHOOL WINS AWARD AT LEARN & SERVE CONFERENCE
Presentation by two juniors earns school on the Omaha Reservation award as "most motivated and dedicated for community improvement."
WALTHILL, NE --- Juniors Willard Freemont and Amelia Bird presented sketches for a mural in Walthill's post office at last week's Learn & Serve Conference in Omaha, NE. Their presentation earned Walthill a special award as most motivated and dedicated school for community improvement."
The mural project is a collaboration of Walthill Public School, the Walthill Post Office, and Learn & Serve America, which is providing the funding. Learn & Serve America is a national service grant program that supports service-learning across the country.
Amelia and Willard's presentation is part of an effort to reduce graffiti and to beautify the school and town with artwork.
Amelia has been an honor student since seventh grade. Her artwork has been published in _Indian Country Today_ and broadcast on the Cartoon Network's _Toonami_ program. She wants to become an animation artist. Amelia is currently writing her first novel, _Darkness_.
Willard is also an honor student. He has sold artwork to _Fantasy, Folklore & Fairytales_, an online magazine. He plans to become a molecular biologist. He is also currently writing a novel, _Death of a Hero_.
