New Design Environment Service Provider Solves Multibillion-Dollar EDA Interoperability Problems for Designers of High-Speed Electronic Products

Syncrons Web-Based Software Program Allows Multiple Engineering Disciplines At Remote Locations To Collaborate, Select Parts, Make Design Changes In Real Time

Syncrons Solution Addresses Supply Chain Demands for Improved Design-to-Manufacturing Process, Including Design Iteration Reduction,Collaboration and Parts Management

Scottsdale, Ariz., March 18, 2002 -- A new company and a new concept made their formal debut today with the launching of Syncron Technologies, a Design Environment Service Provider (DESP) focused on process innovation and technology services that enable designers of high-speed electronics to substantially shorten product development time and reduce costs. This peer-to-peer design environment does this by tightly integrating multiple suppliers, engineering disciplines and design systems through proprietary software applications, state-of-the-art Internet technology, and professional services it provides as an integral part of the process.
The new DESP offers the first secure, open and flexible design environment, which quickly transforms fragmented design environments into a highly efficient design-to-manufacturing process that decreases design iterations, eliminates process interoperability issues and maintains up-to-date corporate parts libraries. Syncrons Web-based software platform -- Universal Design Network (UDN) -- allows multiple engineering disciplines at remote locations to communicate, collaborate, select parts, make design decisions, verify designs, and make design changes in real time in an open, secure environment.
UDN lets users track and control the design-to-manufacturing process," said Syncron CEO and Founder Phil Calhoun, who has devoted much of his 32-year career to improving design-to-manufacturing processes. Its a complete solution that fills a major void in an industry that spends billions of dollars each year trying to solve interoperability problems related to the design and manufacture of electronic products."
Commented Julian Coates, vice president of corporate marketing at Valor Computerized Systems, a Syncron partner and leading developer and supplier of DFM/CAM solutions: Valor believes that Syncron can bring a new level of value to electronics product realization processes, especially in the high-growth outsourced sector. Their service-based DESP model matches the expectations of a growing segment of the EDA industry"
Another Syncron partner already employing UDN is Design Solutions, Inc. (DSI), a premier provider of engineering, design, simulation and manufacturing services for the electronics product development industry.                                         -more-

The new design paradigm Syncron is introducing is the most exciting and significant new technology introduced in EDA during the past 20 years," said DSI Senior Vice President David Rager. "DSI is enthusiastic about using the UDN design environment as a primary means for customer and intra-company collaboration for our design services business."
Universal Design Network
UDN is a tightly integrated group of proven technologies, comprising proprietary collaboration, parts management, design project management, design and design verification software systems. Deployed and administered entirely via the Web, UDN connects project users through peer-to-peer deployment, whereby the software overlays into existing design systems, allowing all participating engineers to share parts and design data.
The cornerstone of UDN is the Syncrons Unified Design Database, which provides a central location for importing and exporting design and parts data, regardless of EDA tool origination. Through the Unified Design Database, Syncron provides a design tool with embedded thermal and signal integrity analysis capabilities that multiple engineering disciplines can use collaboratively to eliminate or minimize design iterations by resolving engineering, part selection and physical design issues before the final layout. Because it can be used with existing design tools, UDN can easily integrate into any design environment.
UDN can also integrate professional services solutions into the design process, either by Syncron directly or by its partners, who can assist with physical data and parts research. Users can even have their own outside consultants work on their design by granting them access to UDN. In addition, Syncron has assembled its own staff of signal integrity and thermal analysis specialists. Routing capabilities and custom software services are also available.
Recognizing that at any one time, no vendor will have the best solutions to all parts of the design environment, Syncron fashioned UDN to be expandable and extensible, allowing other solutions to be introduced at any time from internal or third-party-applications.
The UDN service provider pricing model offers a true floating license, with monthly fees ranging from $100 to $2,000 per user. Average monthly usage fee is expected to be $500 to $900 per user.
More information on the UDN is available from Syncron Technologies, 14500 N. Northsight Blvd., Scottsdale, Arizona 85260, telephone 480-948-0585, e-mail info@syncront.com, or on the Web at www.syncrontechnologies.com.
