Rookie Football League launches web site.
The Rookie Football League (RFL), a proposed minor league that will develop playing talent during the NFL season for NFL teams, has launched the league's web site at www.rookiefootballleague.com.
For immediate release
The Rookie Football League (RFL), a proposed minor league that will develop playing talent during the NFL season for NFL teams, would like to welcome members of the media to learn more about the RFL at our web site: www.rookiefootballleague.com.
We feel that our concept of developing and having game-ready talent available during the NFL season will greatly assist NFL teams, as these players will be available immediately to take the roster spot for an injured NFL player, or to take on a season-long role from a released player. The RFL will not compete with the NFL, as its teams will be based in medium-sized non-NFL cities, and the games will be played on dates that do not conflict with the NFL schedule (such as Thursday and Friday nights).
The RFL will be formed under one of the following two plans, depending on the exact desires of the NFL and its teams:
1. The RFL can be structured as a complete team-for-team affiliated farm system for the NFL, with a specific farm team for each NFL team (similar to the relationship between Major League Baseball and its minor leagues). Each NFL team will sign and develop its own playing talent, and will have the freedom to move players between their club and their affiliated RFL team.
2. The RFL can be structured as an independent" minor league that signs and develops its own talent, and sells the contracts of individual players to NFL teams through a general league-to-league affiliation (similar to the relationship between the National Basketball Association and the Continental Basketball Association). NFL teams would be able purchase the contracts of playing talent from the RFL, but would not have the opportunity to move players between their club and RFL teams.
