When is blind faith foolish? When should a woman stop believing and start acting? Paige Brookhart must answer those questions as her spirit is broken, the result of abuse at the hand of her husband for an interminable period. Shame, pain, bewilderment, and guilt fill Paige as difficult decisions approach. With the help of a kindly neighbor, Paige and her children flee following Justin Brookhart's latest rampage. Wishing on a shooting star to never be beaten again, Paige turns towards a new life but car trouble puts her directly into the path of Colorado rancher, Lance Parrish.
Lance takes one look at the battered face of Paige and offers to help. Out of money and options, Paige is not comfortable with Lance's offer to work as his housekeeper, but a woman's shelter will provide the sanctuary needed. However, Justin isn't willing to let his family go that easily.
Even if you do not like inspirational fiction, I highly recommend you read WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR. A victim of spousal abuse myself, I generally steer away from books focused on this subject (it still brings back nightmares sometimes), but WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR touched me in a way no other book has before. I admired Paige, and her faith, her strength of character, and her ability to change her future.
WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR is unlike any other ...the plot is riveting. Tense moments stretch into what seems like hours as you wait to reach the pinnacle, only to find the journey continues. The blossoming love between Paige and Lance is filled with peace and beauty, all the while the darkness of Justin clouds the horizon bringing fear and hatred as readers learn that faith and trust can be restored.
