New Cost-Efficient 3U CompactPCI CPU from PEP Provides Scalability and Increased System Performance

Pittsburgh, PA, April 2002 -- A new cost-efficient 3U CompactPCI CPU offering scalability and increased system performance has been added to PEP Modular Computers family of Intel® Pentium III® processor boards. The passively cooled CP304 is ideal for a wide range of applications with highly integrated platforms including VPN, firewall, industrial servers, and compact industrial computers.

The new CP304 is a scalable 32-bit/33 MHz CompactPCI controller board designed to support all Pentium III FC-PGA and FC-PGA2 processors (370 socket), as well as low voltage versions and future generations of processors. The hot-swappable board can support up to seven 32-bit/33 MHz peripheral boards. Additionally, the CP304 features an on-socket SODIMM that enables memory upgrades of up to 512 MB SDRAM, further increasing the boards scalability.

The CP304 also increases system performance by providing double the available internal L2 on-die cache from 256 KB to 512 KB, the same capacity available in a Pentium IV processor. A higher clock rate from 1.0 GHz to up to 1.53 GHz; an

increased memory speed from 100 MHz to 133 MHz; and two standard 82599-based 10/100Base-TX Ethernet channels also contribute to improved system performance.

The efficient design of the CP304 incorporates an integrated 3D high performance graphics accelerator based on Intels 82815-B0 graphics memory controller hub (GMCH) and 82810E communication I/O controller hub (ICH) chipset. Both VGA-CRT and VGA-DVI interfaces are available. Analog and digital displays support up to
1280 Hz x 1024 Hz x 16/75 Hz or 1200 Hz x 1600 Hz x 256/60 Hz.

The new board also features two USB 1.1-compliant ports, dual COM interfaces
and two Ultra ATA/100 EIDE channels. Operating temperature is 0°C to 60°C
(32°F to 140°F) and Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) is 141 hours.

The CP304 supports Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP operating systems in addition to real-time applications including Linux and VxWorks. It is also compatible with AdvancedTCA (ATCA) specifications (formerly PICMG Rev. 3.0).

Pricing for the CP304 starts at $1,308. Delivery is 4 weeks ARO.
