Novato, California - Roy Rogers, an eight time Grammy nominated producer/guitarist and performer has completed a new instrumental record entitled "Slideways." It will be released in March on Evidence Music and Emusic.com/Vivendi. The project features The Delta Rhythm Kings (Jimmy Sanchez on Drums and Steve Evans on bass) as well as Zigaboo Modeliste (The Meters) and Francis Clay (Muddy Waters) on drums in addition to Phil Aaberg (Peter Gabriel, Elvin Bishop) on keyboards, Norton Buffalo (Steve Miller Band) on harmonica and the unique lap steel of Freddie Roulette. This award winning performer and producer will be touring worldwide in 2002. Please check the Tour Date page on the website for updates.
Rogers is also featured on the upcoming release by Bonnie Raitt entitled "Silver Lining" coming April 9th on the track "Gnawin On It" which they co-wrote. In addition Rogers is featured on the track ''Porca L'Oca" playing electric slide guitar on Italy's Zucchero's release "Shake." For this release Rogers also produced a John Lee Hooker vocal duet with Zucchero in April of 2001, just two months before Mr. Hooker passed away. This was Roy's last studio recording with the great Mr. Hooker and a wonderful track called 'Ali d' Oro ', amazingly enough it means" I Lay Down with the Angels."
A distinguished career in American Roots music, Roy Rogers has a lengthy list of accomplishments as a performer, recording artist, songwriter and producer.
Highlights include:
· An exceptional performance record at some of the world's most prestigious festivals in Europe, North America, Australia and Brazil including the Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), The Cisco Ottawa Blues Festival (Canada), The Chicago Blues Festival, New Orleans Jazz Festival, Royal Festival Hall (London), The London Jazz Festival, Pistoia and San Remo Festivals (Italy), The Pori Jazz Festival (Finland), Nodotten (Norway) and Tondor Festivals (Denmark) among many others.
Roger's is developing a slide accessory line with D'Addario which features Roy's photos, video and instruction and will be distributed to music retailers worldwide.
· In the fall of 2002 Rogers' will be featured in a one hour show for a new PBS series on American Roots Music sponsored by the Sierra Nevada Brewery called "Behind the Scenes" featuring artist interviews and live performance. The show was taped in the sponsor's new two million dollar digital arts theater in Chico, California. This series produced by PBS producer Peter Berkow will be aired nationally and via PBS satellites.
· Rogers is launching a radio show called "Under the Influence with Roy Rogers on the AAA station KRSH (sister station to Austin's KGSR) in February which will appear twice a month and be broadcast on the internet.
Rogers' has received six Grammy credits as a producer and two as a recording artist. All four records Rogers' produced for John Lee Hooker were nominated and two have won Grammy's. The recordings are: "The Healer", "Mr. Lucky", "Boom Boom" and "Chill Out". The track "I'm In The Mood" with Bonnie Raitt off "The Healer" won in 1992 and "Chill Out" won in 1995. In addition, the two recordings Rogers' produced for National Medal of Arts recipient Ramblin' Jack Elliott won nominations in the Folk Category for "Friends of Mine" and "The Long Ride." Also, Rogers was nominated for writing an instrumental "Song for Jessica" in 1992 in the Country Instrumental Recording and for his performance on "The Hot Spot" movie soundtrack in 1990 appearing with Miles Davis, John Lee Hooker and Taj Mahal.
· Rogers' continues to "cross fields" and is featured on Sammy Hagar's last three recordings. He is also collaborating with recording artists in Norway & Denmark and has recently been collaborating in performances with Mickey Hart.
· Rogers' has eight solo recordings, "Chops Not Chaps" ; "Slidewinder" ; "Blues On The Range"; "Slide of Hand" ; "Slide Zone" ; "Rhythm & Groove" ; "Pleasure & Pain" ; "Slideways" ; and two duet recordings with Norton Buffalo "R&B" and "Travelin' Tracks", as well as one duet recording with Shana Morrison "Everybody's Angel."
· Rogers' has won multiple awards and nominations from around the world including France, Brazil, and Australia as well as W.C. Handy nominations in the U.S. and more than 14 California Music Award nominations, among others.
Roy Rogers serves on the Board of Governors for the San Francisco Chapter of the National Recording Arts and Sciences and is on the Artist Advisory Board for D'Addario Strings and Accessories.
