Mitsubishi Selects GT Nexus for Global Logistics Platform
Major Japanese trading company to use GT Nexus technology products for global transportation planning and execution.
ALAMEDA, CA, USA and Tokyo, Japan -- April 8, 2002 -- GT Nexus, a leading provider of e-logistics solutions, announced today a contract with Mitsubishi for a private logistics network that will deploy the GT Nexus Planning and GT Nexus Execution application suites.
The GT Nexus-powered private network will serve as the primary platform enabling collaboration and integration of logistics operations across Mitsubishis business units, partners and service providers. The private network will enable Mitsubishi to:
· Standardize the procurement, contracting and optimization of their global ocean freight.
· Standardize their global ocean shipment execution processes that include scheduling, booking, documentation management and shipment tracking.
· Connect their partners and service providers into a common, yet secure network, creating a single data repository from which it can more effectively monitor, measure and manage global supply chain performance.
· Improve data quality for Mitsubishis internal management systems through integration and synchronization with shipment information hosted in the GT Nexus-managed private logistics network.
Mitsubishi International Corp. (MIC), and MC Trans International Inc. (McTI) will be the first Mitsubishi companies to come onto the network as part of a phased implementation schedule. MIC and McTI are multi-million dollar companies engaged in international trade of commodities, consumer and industrial products, and global logistics management services, respectively.
We chose GT Nexus because their solution uniquely combined transportation planning with shipment execution and supply chain visibility. It complements our goals for business process improvement," said Koji Tamura, General Manager for McTI. This supports our e-commerce capabilities and potentially provides the foundation for our core horizontal platform for logistics management in all the vertical industries where Mitsubishi is a player."
This is a milestone contract for GT Nexus," said John C. Urban, President. It marks an integrated deployment of our Planning and Execution applications. Mitsubishi will be able to leverage upstream planning activities to drive more efficient processing of downstream shipment execution.
As an example, Mitsubishi will be able to click a single button in the Planning application, and create a booking instantly in the Execution application directly with their chosen carrier. Details from their carrier service contract, stored online in the private network, will automatically populate the booking, without re-keying information. The carrier, in turn, will be able to send back an electronic booking confirmation and prepare documents online. This demonstrates the power of our platform to automate and streamline complex logistics processes."
Urban added that within its private network, Mitsubishi also will be able to analyze actual event data about the execution of shipments and carrier performance, and compare that against established planning assumptions and service commitments. This will enable true measurement of performance against plan" in the supply chain -- a holy grail" for the logistics industry that has been extremely difficult to achieve until now.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Work to deploy and implement the private network has begun.
