Vigilinx and SAIC Team Awarded FedCIRC Patch Validation Contract
Parsippany, NJ, - April 10, 2002 - A team from Vigilinx and SAIC has been awarded the Federal Computer Incident Response Center (FedCIRC) contract for the Patch Authentication and Dissemination Capability (PADC). The five-year program, valued at over $11 million, will provide government agencies with a trusted source for centralized security patch validation and management services.
Vigilinx CEO Bruce Murphy said, This capability represents a significant step forward in the collaborative efforts between government and commercial security providers." Murphy continued by stating, Vigilinx has leveraged its current security alerting and intelligence service, IntelliSHIELDsm, to offer a rapid patch validation process for all common technologies. This new capability will place Vigilinx far ahead of any other security services provider, while protecting the critical infrastructure of the country for both government and commercial constituencies."
The PADC initiative leverages Vigilinx established expertise in security alert production, client notification, security patch validation, and secure dissemination. PADC implementation extends the IntelliSHIELD offering, to include obtaining and validating vendor-provided patches for all common technologies. Vigilinx will provide automatic and secure notification to government subscribers based upon their own customized technology profiles.
PADC provides comprehensive, timely, and efficient security patch management services for government information technology leaders and security professionals. The profile-based notification capability gives network and security administrators an effective tool for the complex task of maintaining the security of government systems. SAIC is the prime contractor for this program, with Vigilinx serving as the sole subcontractor to provide the Web-based functionality and patch validation services.
Summary of Features:
Automated Web-Based Registration: Authorized government users will be able to subscribe to the PADC from a secure web interface. Subscribers create customized notification profiles by selecting from a menu of technologies (operating systems, firewalls, routers, anti-virus software, Intrusion Detection Systems, and Servers).
Timely Notification of breaking threats and vulnerabilities: FedCIRC PADC will notify users when new threats or vulnerabilities are discovered for their selected technologies. Notifications will be updated as vendor patches are released and authenticated. FedCIRC PADC will also rapidly validate patches based upon their threat level.
A team of security and intelligence collection experts gathers information from a global source network of over 7,000 separate sources. These public and private sources include vendors, professional associations, and government organizations. Analysts use source fusion and expert validation to comprise notifications and alerts.
Secure Download of Validated Patches: Subscribers will be able to go to a secure site to download validated patches that are applicable to their systems.
Technical Help Desk Support: Subscribers will be able to contact the FedCIRC help desk to verify information or to seek assistance with patch installation.
Reporting and Tracking Tools: Subscribers will be able to generate reports identifying applicable patches and an audit trail for patch download.
