SURVEILLANCE RADAR TECHNOLOGY UPGRADE
Kanata, Ontario, Canada, April 8, 2002-Dy 4 Systems, a division of Force Computers, a Solectron company, and a leading designer and manufacturer of COTS VME and CompactPCI products for harsh environments, has announced that Raytheon Company has selected Dy 4s System Technology Enhancement Program (STEP) to assist in the technology upgrade of the Raytheon Companys SeaVue family of surveillance radars. Dy 4s STEP program will help Raytheon, a global technology leader in defense and electronics, significantly reduce capital expenditures in SeaVue technology upgrades, while utilizing existing COTS technology to provide top processing speed and system performance.
Dy 4s STEP program, an enhanced version of the companys comprehensive lifecycle management capabilities, leverages the best in current open-architecture COTS product technology to cost-effectively embrace the growth potential and technology insertion benefits that result from today's open systems approach. Significant system performance enhancements to Raytheons SeaVue radars were made possible by Dy 4s dual processor board based on the companys unique CHAMP segmented architecture, designed in a custom form factor to fit SeaVues existing physical and mechanical parameters. The high-performance board incorporates two 400MHz AltiVec G4 PowerPCs and custom interfaces.
Raytheons International Surveillance Radar Senior Manager, Craig Thompson stated, By incorporating existing technologies into our SeaVue radars, we were able to overcome difficult obsolescence issues and, at the same time, save significant amounts of time and money. We are planning to provide up to 15-20 fully enhanced SeaVue systems per year. And, thanks to Dy 4s STEP program, the upgraded SeaVue will be prepared to accommodate future technology upgrades."
SeaVue is a multi-platform, lightweight radar designed for maritime and overland surveillance. Superior sea surveillance is obtained under high sea conditions using fast-scan antenna technology coupled with unique signal processing algorithms. Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) capability provides radar imaging of ocean targets. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) processing provides high-resolution overland and coastal mapping. Further enhancements to these baseline capabilities are now possible because of Dy 4s STEP Program.
Duncan Young, Director of Marketing for Dy 4, stated, Raytheon was able to replicate the functionality and enhance the performance of their system using commercial cards that incorporate Dy 4s off-the-shelf technology. The SeaVue systems demonstrate how efficiently our STEP program enables users to take advantage of the most advanced commercial technologies in a timely way without compromising quality, reliability, or future upgradeability."
