Small Businesses Continue To Be Strong In A Weak Economy
SPRINGFIELD, OH -- APRIL 15, 2002 -- SysEdCo today announced the results of the 2001 Small Business Survey. The results of the survey reveal that small business America is healthy and strong, even in the middle of economically slow times.
Small businesses are thriving in spite of the economy," says Tom Carpenter, President and Owner of SysEdCo. We are beginning to see indicators of an improving economy, but the 2001 Small Business Survey results show that, even as early as August in 2001, small businesses were confident."
Some of the most important findings include:
- 83% of the small business owners surveyed had moderate to no concern for their job security
- in general, 86% of those surveyed -- including managers, owners and employees, had moderate to no concern for their job security
- 23% of the small businesses (the survey was limited to companies with fewer than 500 employees) had job openings, with 14% having 5 or more openings
- 71% were definitely not seeking other employment while 26% were seeking other employment at the time
- 54% knew that the company they worked for/owned was profitable while 30% were unsure -- leaving only 16% that were not profitable
- 76% said they knew of no one who had been dismissed due to economic difficulty while only 9% knew of someone who was
The data from the survey clearly shows that the small businesses of America are still a strong foundation that the economy can stand on.
