With forty three percent of New York area residents feeling hopeless and fearful, the time has come for us to reclaim our lives.

Inspirational author and speaker, Jim Donovan, says the time has come for us to reclaim our lives and take back our power. He says it is time for us to face our fears but get on with our lives in spite of them. Donovan, a native New Yorker, understands all too well what fear and hopelessness feels like. Having once been down and out, he has transformed a life of misery and desperation into a life that has surpassed any dreams he ever had.

"We all go through our own pain," he says. "Thats just part of the lessons of living. But people have to know that no matter where you are in life, you can take charge, you can change and you can reclaim your life."

In his seminars, based on his new book, Reclaim Your Life, he offers simple steps anyone can follow to take back their own power and reclaim their life.
The first step, according to Donovan , is Acceptance. Accept what is -- right now. Accept yourself and your circumstances as they are. Once you accept a situation, you have the power to change it. Next, believe in yourself and in a Power greater than yourself (God) to get you through whatever you're facing.
Make a decision to live your life at a higher level. You may not be able to control outer events but you can control how you respond to them. You can control how you feel and act on a daily basis. Decide what you want in your life and decide to take charge of your life and your emotions.

Allow your fears to surface. Let them out. Talk about them, write about them, join a support group. "Something I learned years ago," says Donovan, "is that we're only as sick as our secrets." Whatever you're facing, once you get it out in the light, it becomes easier to deal with. Don't bury your feelings. If possible, join or start a support group to help you and others get through this time. If you feel you need it, by all means, get professional help.

Learn to focus your attention on what you want in your life, not on what you don't want. We attract what we focus on. Stop replaying horrible events in your mind. Find other things to focus on. Turn your attention to what you have in your life. Begin a gratitude list and write all the things in your life you are grateful for.

Do what you can to help. For his part, Donovan is donating a portion of the proceeds from his new book to the New York Firefighters and Police Officers Widow's Fund, with a goal of donating two million dollars over the next one to two years.
