THE 2ND ANNUAL HOUSE 4 THE HOMELESS RAISES FUNDS AND FREQUENCY LEVELS TO BENEFIT BAY AREA YOUTH

SAN JOSE, April 4, 2002 - The bad news is that the homeless rate for young people is on the rise. The good news is that there are young people out there trying to change it. House 4 The Homeless (H4H) started as a group of friends with a mission - to put their individual talents to good use and inspire altruism within the community through music. It is now an annual fund raising event to give unfortunate youths something even better, a home.

House 4 The Homeless is a one-day festival of House music, dancing and outdoor games and activities. H4H was designed to increase local participation in Bay Area neighborhoods through music, and many local DJs are lending their musical talent to contribute to the cause. Rick Preston, Dawn of Sound, DJ Denise, Queen Agnes B., N8 Castro and many more will be in attendance at the event. In conjunction with the music will be volleyball, a horseshoe toss as well as picnic and barbecue facilities for those wishing to supply their own food.

The event will benefit the Emergency Housing Consortium (EHC), which shelters and supports runaway and abandoned youth in and around the San Jose area. Every day, thousands of young people between the ages of 11-17 find themselves without family or shelter and the EHC has been working tirelessly since 1980 to bring homelessness to an end in Santa Clara County. With the help of corporations, community groups and individuals such as the members of House 4 The Homeless, EHC can provide for over 1,000 homeless a night - more than any other organization in the Valley.

EHC also provides life skills training, family support and transitional housing programs intended to get people off of the streets and keep them off. The dedicated coordinators and youth volunteers of H4H have chosen to donate all of the proceeds of this years event to EHC's full service program specifically for homeless youth, Our House, as their way of giving back to the community.

This year's goal is to raise $25,000 through raffle ticket sales and corporate sponsorships. Raffle winners at the event will receive myriad prizes donated from a list of local sponsors such as Adobe and Red Bull. H4H is an afternoon event for young people and families that will be held on Sunday, May 19th at the Coyote Hellyer Park from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. or sundown. Hellyer Park is located at 985 Hellyer Ave in San Jose off of Hwy 101. There is no admission fee, donations are requested. For more information, please visit the event web site at www.house4homeless.org or contact the Communications Director, Dennis Castro at (415) 297-0584.
