Savi Technology to Acquire CanTRACK for
Real-Time Management and Security of Air Cargo Containers

    SUNNYVALE, Calif.--April 18, 2002--

Acquisition To Extend and Augment Savi's Expanding Software Suite
for Supply Chain Assets Across Transportation Modes

Savi Technology, Inc., the provider of unique real-time solutions
for supply chain asset management, security and collaboration, today
announced that it has agreed to acquire CanTRACK, a two-year-old
manufacturer of software that automatically manages, monitors and
ensures the security of the full life cycle of air cargo containers
and their contents. This software, combined with Savi's real-time
systems, Savi SmartChain software platform, and Savi SmartSeal(TM)
electronic seal for air cargo unit loading devices (ULDs), enables air
freight carriers, shippers, supply chain asset providers, and
third-party logistics companies to help protect air cargo shipments
while improving asset utilization and operational efficiency.
The addition of CanTRACK's software quickly extends and augments
Savi's suite of robust software solutions for managing and securing
all types of conveyances across multiple modes of transportation.
CanTRACK's complementary web-native software will be incorporated into
the Savi Asset Management application, alongside existing modules for
rail and reusable transportation containers (RTCs), to be followed
soon by configurations for supply chain assets used in intermodal,
truck and ocean modes. The CanTRACK addition also reinforces the
capabilities of the Savi SmartSeal(TM) security system, which includes
security-related software and hardware, such as a new fiber-optic
electronic seal for ULDs that was announced earlier this month.
CanTRACK automatically updates a central data repository with
check-out and check-in data as well as reports on contents, demurrage,
storage, and repairs. These solutions address long-standing problems
associated with keeping track of air cargo unit loading devices, often
called ULDs, as well as ensuring the security of their contents.
According to industry figures, there are about 1 million ULDs in use
worldwide, costing between $500 to $35,000 each, and major carriers
lose an average of 2 percent of them annually because of inefficient,
paper-based manual procedures and legacy mainframe systems that don't
communicate effectively. Further, only 90 percent of ULDs make it to
their intended destinations on time, largely because of missed
departures due to inefficient management systems.
"CanTRACK accelerates our capability to offer comprehensive
real-time management and security solutions for aviation, which is
especially important today because of heightened terrorist concerns,"
said Blair LaCorte, Savi's executive vice president of Marketing and
Business Development. "Combined with Savis' existing SmartSeal and
Asset Management System, our customers can now more safely and
efficiently utilize ULDs whether they're in-transit, aggregated for
storage and maintenance, or reallocated for new assignments."
CanTRACK software solutions, built by logisticians and engineers
experienced in the airline industry, were designed to be linked with
automated data collection systems such as Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) technologies, optical barcodes, and GPS. In
addition to its Savi SmartChain(TM) software platform and
applications, Savi provides inter-connected hardware systems and smart
radio tags affixed to conveyances that automatically transmit
information about the status, location and identification of
shipments. This integrated hardware-software solution enables
customers to dynamically manage their conveyances, receive reports and
analyze them in real time from a single computer screen.
"Savi has designed a seamless solution integrating hardware and
software that's especially good for aviation," said David Stukel,
founder of CanTRACK. "Savi's automated EchoPoint system can turn
active radio tags on and off, which is important to aviation because
it eliminates the potential for cross-frequency interferences when
ULDs are loaded into air cargo hulls. Together with our combined
software, this should be the most robust and full-featured real-time
solution for managing and securing conveyances used in aviation."
