Leon Films has announced that the postproduction work on Northern Star, its first, independent DV feature is now complete. Following a private showing scheduled for April 25, the film will feature in select venues in the U. S. and Europe and is also being geared up for theatrical release in Fall 2002.

Leon Films, Inc. completes postproduction of Northern Star

Ft. Lauderdale, FL -- April 21, 2002

Leon Films, Inc., a Florida based company, has announced that the postproduction work on Northern Star, its first, independent DV feature is now complete. Following a private showing scheduled for April 25, the film will feature in select venues in the U. S. and Europe and is also being geared up for theatrical release in Fall 2002.

Based on an original script by Aaron Uris, who is also the producer and director, Northern Star is a dialogue-driven drama-thriller, about Sharon Booth, an American journalist, and her three day odyssey in a totalitarian Asian country. On assignment to interview its most reclusive leader, Sharon discovers a shattering secret when something unexpected happens during the interview. As her concepts of truth and lie, friends and foes get blurred, she finds a most unlikely ally in the very heart of the regime she has to escape from. A strange set of events take her from the reclusive state to Beijing, Washington, D.C., New York and finally to Miami, during which she comes to terms with the hypocrisy and indifference surrounding human relationships across and at all levels; love, nationality, politics, cultures, and media. According to writer/director Uris, The Northern Star is not an action feature but rather a dreamlike venture, in the thriller-drama genre, into the coldness of the world we have to live in and find our own lighthouses."

Made on an extraordinarily modest budget, Northern Star is a counter-mainstream feature with its lead character being a female, more than half of the cast being Asian-American debutants, and with an unusual soundtrack based on Korean pansori. And thats what makes Northern Star appealing", says Aaron Uris about his debut feature. If you could find that delicate balance between form and content, all these disadvantages would somehow work together miraculously to produce an interesting film," concludes Mr. Uris.
