AND SONGWRITERS AT 17TH ANNUAL AWARDS GALA
Alan Silvestri to receive the Henry Mancini Award for Lifetime Achievement
Van Alexander to receive the ASCAP Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) will present its Henry Mancini Award for Lifetime Achievement to Alan Silvestri it was announced today by Marilyn Bergman, ASCAP President and Chairman of the Board. This prestigious award will be given to Silvestri in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions to the world of film and television music. On the same occasion, The ASCAP Foundation will honor composer Van Alexander with its Lifetime Achievement Award.
The presentation will take place during the 17th annual ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards Gala honoring the writers and publishers of the biggest box office film music and the most performed television music of the year. The gala will be held on April 30, 2002 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
ASCAP is proud to honor Alan Silvestri for his prolific and distinguished body of work. His scores are an integral and vital ingredient to many of the most popular films of the past 20 years," said ASCAP President Marilyn Bergman. We are also proud to honor Van Alexander whose influential work has made a significant contribution to our nations music culture during his lifetime."

Alan Silvestri has been a defining creative force in film and television music for over two decades, including such box office hits as Romancing the Stone," Back to the Future" (I, II, III), Who Framed Roger Rabbit," Father of the Bride" (I, II), Forrest Gump," Grumpy Old Men (Grumpier Old Men), Stuart Little" (I, II), Cast Away," and What Lies Beneath," among many others. His work in television includes the themes to Starsky and Hutch," ChiPs," Amazing Stories," and Tales From the Crypt."
Past recipients of the Henry Mancini Award include James Newton Howard, Quincy Jones, Michel Legrand, Johnny Mandel and Randy Newman.
Van Alexander has enjoyed an extraordinary career as a successful composer, arranger, songwriter, author, conductor and bandleader for over six decades. His credits include scores for "Baby Face Nelson," The Atomic Kid," "The Big Operator," "The Private Lives of Adam and Eve," and the scores to classic television shows such as Hazel," The Farmers Daughter," Bewitched," I Dream of Jeanie" and Dennis the Menace." In addition to arranging and conducting for TV variety shows starring Jimmy Stewart, Mickey Rooney, Dean Martin and Gordon McRae, Van worked with big band leaders including Chick Webb, Paul Whiteman and Benny Goodman. His popular songbook includes the No. 1 Hit A-Tisket, A-Tasket" co-written with Ella Fitzgerald, I'll Close My Eyes," Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?" Got A Pebble In My Shoe," Bouillya Baise" and There's A Ship Comin' In." He has worked with many talents through the years, most notably Dinah Shore, Doris Day and Peggy Lee.
