California State University, Sacramento to Host Africamix Collective Volunteer Pledge For Needy Children Festival.

Held at California State University, Sacramento June 29 and 30, 2002

Sacramento, California - April 22, 2002 - Africamix was today delighted to announce that California State University, Sacramento has officially been selected as the first host venue of its touring arts and music festival designed to help combat child abuse and neglect. "California State University, Sacramento had keenly accepted the appointment", said Makuba Sekombo, Africamix Project coordinator. The volunteer- organized and oriented festival scheduled to visit 20 countries around the world officially begins its tour on June 29 and 30, 2002 at California State University, Sacramento.

"This is a real exciting event, especially for those who share our concerns about the growing need for attention to improving the life and protecting the rights of children in those regions especially impacted by civil wars, the HIV/AIDS health epidemic and poverty", said Makuba Sekombo, Africamix project coordinator. "Regardless of cultural differences, we all need to do a better job as adults to ensure that children grow up in safe communities for a better tomorrow. Research suggests that despite the enormous preventive efforts much more must be done to decrease the incidences of child abuse and neglect. The increasing level of abuse, neglect, and violence experienced by many children will have an enormous negative impact to both individual and society at large." he said.

"I am delighted that California State University, Sacramento will host this event which encourages and fosters utilizing volunteer multicultural arts and music celebrations to help combat child abuse and neglect. This is another demonstration of the school's commitment to helping improve the quality of our lives," said Mr. Sekombo.

Host countries for the Africamix Collective Volunteer Pledge For Needy Children festival include
Canada in July; England and France in August; Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Ethiopia in September; Zambia, Mozambique, Madagascar and South Africa in October; Botswana, Angola, Congo Brazzaville, DR Congo and Senegal in November and Mali, Sierra-Leone and Nigeria in December.

"I believe the festival will make a difference in many ways. For instance, it will help promote awareness of child abuse and neglect, help integrate volunteer arts and music celebrations into community-based child abuse intervention and prevention activities and promote volunteerism in many artists", said Sekombo. He also said that these types of volunteer events where we are all contribute collectively and individually while celebrating our incredible diversity are essentials to helping combat child abuse and neglect", said Mr. Sekombo.

Information on volunteering as well as festival lineup, sponsorship information and other items of interest are available from the festival's Web site at www.africamix.org
