Dowslake Microsystems Welcome Dr. Xin Cheng As Its President & COO

Dr. Xin Cheng, founder and former CEO of Sorrento Networks joins Dowslake Microsystems as President and COO.

SANTA CLARA, CA April 29, 2002 -- Dowslake Microsystems, a pioneer and provider of smart modules for intelligent networks, today announced that Dr. Xin Cheng, founder and former Chairman & CEO of Sorrento Networks has been appointed President and Chief Operating Officer.

Dr Cheng is a 15 year fiber optic industry veteran spanning the CATV to metro DWDM markets. He joined Meret Optical Communications, Inc. in late 80s, when it was a part of Amoco Technology Company. At Meret he developed business and technology of broadband fiber optic transmission systems including WDM-based computer imaging system, HDTV and digital video transmission systems. During his tenure as President of Osicom Technologies, Inc., he founded its optical networking division, which later became Sorrento Networks. The first commercial metro DWDM system was introduced by Dr. Chengs team at Sorrento in May 1997. Since then, he and his team have expanded the company with extensive product lines and a solid brand name customer base worldwide. In 2000, he was appointed Chairman and CEO of Sorrento Networks. His vision and leadership have been instrumental in guiding the company to become a significant player in the metro optical networking marketplace, with revenue growing consistently and substantially year after year, in spite of challenging market conditions.
